Default school debate survey

i'm doing an assignment in my school about uniforms. i'm supposed to have a survey on them, and so this is the only place i know that i can make a poll(i hate real life polls)
I was assined to SUPPORT uniforms
so..
here's some of the good parts of having uniforms:

saves parents money by buying only two or three identical outfits, so you can spend the saved money on what you like(no need to buy latest fasions that cost a LOT) in my case, it would be rc car upgrades

saves time thinking about what to wear

kids aren't harrrased because of clothing

social standing determined by character instead of fasion

gangs use clothing to identify other gang members

some kids use baggy clothes to hide drugs and weapons

prepares kids for office dress codes

makes it easy to know if someone belongs on campus

based on the info here, are uniforms good things?

ps. this is part of my school assignment, so it wasn't my idea
please don't flame me if this seems lame

people are always going to get harrassed no matter what they wear. But on the other hand it might cut down on it.
its very contrversal but its all prefrence.

  • saves parents money by buying only two or three identical outfits.
you still have the clothes you wanna were outside of school to buy. it doesn't really save money.
  • saves time thinking about what to wear
sure it does... but then kids have less choices in their life
  • kids aren't harrrased because of clothing
they will still be harassed because of clothing.
  • social standing determined by character instead of fasion
there will still be social standing based on fashion.
  • gangs use clothing to identify other gang members
yup they do... but most gangs also use tats. it would still be really EASY to know who is in what gang.
  • some kids use baggy clothes to hide drugs and weapons
i am one that wears baggy close... and yes you CAN hide drugs and other stuff in them. But i can garentee you that you can go to walmart or any other store that sells close and get baggy close that fit the dress code.
  • prepares kids for office dress codes
woopy do da! most dress codes are to make you look nice and look the part when working

based on the info here, are uniforms good things?

IMO uniforms suck! my reasons are posted above in bold.

i know all this cause i used to go to a catholic school and had to follow a dress code of Khaki pants w/ a belt, collored shirt, shirt tucked in, and dress shoes.

i was still harassed because of the BRAND of clothing that i wore!

point being DRESS CODES SUCK!

thanks,

its human nature to be mean to others its a psychological dominance thing...i personally have been in private schools previously and even with uniforms people still find a way to show some skin (girls) or hide stuff like drugs so why not let people show their individuality anyways...

Well, you're gonna get the negative back, so I'll start...

Sadly, no, it doesn't. You have to go to certain shops to get it, and the quality is low, meaning you need to buy new clothes, more often.

Becuase everyone wants to wear the same thing, everyday of the week? Boring...

I'm taking this one personal. School Uniforms are ugly to begin with, and they don't fit me at all. I need Designer clothing, as school uniforms are anti-baggy, and I have long legs, measuring me in at 6'4".... You will still be made fun of, becuase you look funny.

Maybe in Elementry school... Have you ever seen/been to a high school?

If you're school has gangs, School uniform are the least of your worries. Gangs will find other ways, like dressing the same, to identify themselves, and they won't go out of thier way, to dress in uniform...

Some kids or FAT or ANOREXIC, and use baggy clothes to hide it. The later is the bad side... I need baggy clothes, cuase I'm tall and skinny, so anything that I find that is long enough, is automaticly baggy.

Are we talking plaid skirt dress code, or bussiness dress? Plaid skirt is more preparing them to be targeted by film makers....

I tell everyone this at school. If the kid is from another school, someone wants to shoot people up, ect... They will just dress the part. Do under-cover people were flowered dresses in a ghetto-drug-bust? No. Think.

-----------
The dress code is a soccer-mom, power thing. They don't really do much. Kids will be made fun of anyways... Oh, and if you get it to work in a hood school, I will personaly give you $100, and then eat a hat... Or, an xmod...

I'm making another post, don't want it too long....

... But then again, I have gone to schools with dress codes, and I currently go to a hood school, and I know drug dealers, gang members, and all of the above. Some are close friends.. Hey, my step-brother is a BLOOD in a dress code school, and they can all point each other out...

Then again, people stuff (drugs and..) in the bathroom, openly, at school. Uniforms won't solve the problems, just make them worse for the most part.

Again, it's a power thing...

I accidentally voted no

Anyways, I say yes. I goto a school where we have to wear uniforms. No one wears it correctly (tucked in, that sort of stuff) but it does prevent people from talking smack about what someone else is wearing. I really like the fact that its also a co-ed school and that most of the girls choose to wear skirts over dress pants

people at my school still talk smack about other people's clothes with a dress code our dress code is as follows: solid color shirts, kacki brown od black pants, belt shirt tucked in, NO hoodies if you get caught with a hoodie on you get an ISS(in school suspension), no hats, the list just keeps going they take dress code very serious whereI go that is why I voted NO!

Ah there not bad. I have to wear a special shirt for my Automotive class, and its really ain't all that bad. Everyone that has to wear them do.

There kinda expensive though like $18. But if you look at it with all my other 10-15$ shirts its not really that bad.
Saves you money in the long run, and whats nice is you only gotta buy them once.

Agreed. Sad thing is, my sister has school uniforms, and I wear designer stuff (South Pole, ACKDEMICS, Ecko) and my stuff costs less, with Ecko Shirts at an uber-expensive $15, how can they arque that school uniforms are less expensive? Or you can go to Foot-Locker and get like 5 long tee's in any color, for less than $20. That's cheap.
