A good mod gone bad (the melted body thread)
so, I got my blazer 1/25 model from tower hobbies:
tower blazer model link here I hold it up to the f150 chassis, and it is almost a perfect fit. I get excited, because it will look great when it's done. Then I notice that the body is twisted a bit and has a bend in one of the a-pillars. Oh no!!! So, I call tower and tell them about the defective product. They were soooo cool. They are sending a new one, and said I could keep or throw away the bad one. Is that customer service or what?!? So, I figure I'll mess around with the broken one and see if I can fix it. I turn on the oven and put the model in, hoping to heat it up enough to bend it back into the correct shape. Guess what... I forgot that I put it in the oven, and half an hour later: Yup... I melted the body. So much for trying to fix the bad body. On a plus note, I'm glad my issue with the bad model was so easy to fix with tower. Oh man, this is gonna be a great looking xmod when done! |

Hah thats crazy!! But you not just put it back in the oven for a short period of time, take it out and whilst trying not to burn yourself put back into shape! ;-)
Anyway seriously I'm glad it was so easy for you to get a replacement, I've had issues in the past with AMT models and they where so unhelpful!!!

Yeah, he rules. I probably could have stated it better though, I mean, it was actually pretty practical. I would probably would have tried other things before my parents would let me stick it in the oven, lol.

well, I've baked model parts to cure the paint on them before. This time I turned up the heat a bit, so it would get soft enough to bend back into shape. Only problem is that I started watching television and I forgot about it... |

no, but it's easy. Just paint the item, pre-heat the oven to 185, put the painted piece in a pirex baking pan, and then leave it in the oven for about half an hour to an hour. At least I think the temp was 185 when I did it last time. It might've been 165. Either way, you want to find as hot as you can go without melting the piece or ruining the paint. Most things will be at the mid to high one hundreds...

seriously!!! They have GREAT customer service. Of course, I wouldn't have even tried baking it if they weren't sending me a new one. They said to just throw away the bad kit, so I thought I'd experiment with it and see if I could fix the defect. First rule of experimenting: don't walk away and watch tv in the middle of your experiment!!!
Oh well, I paid for one car, and I'll still have one car, so I'm not out anything... |

well, the new blazer body came today, so my project is back on. This one looks good. I'm glad tower was so easy to work with, because I hate returns/exchanges...
ps- this is not a double post, since the two posts are five days apart... |

yeah, I freaked when my wife reminded me that my model was STILL in the oven. I'm just glad it was already a trashed body, cause I'd hate to ruin a good one. I can't wait to start this new project. It should be a great truck when it's done!
