How to.....Crawl?
Hey folks,
I was just reading up on a few tutorials on how to drift. And this got me thinking, what about a thread about on how to crawl or offroad effectively, and, of course, make it through without a reposition or the situation deemed "undriveaable". I was thinking all those saavy offroaders and myself could put together a thread that maybe could be stickied, (If it progressed well enough) that would give you some general guidlines on approach angles, how to tackle sticky mud, and so on. So what makes this different? I have yet to see a tutorial on this that did not pertain to the assembly of a truck. This would teach you how to put that Tamiya Gearbox, Hs-55, Lemo-Solar, Aoshimas, Lift, and etc. to good use. Because if you do the above, you may be fouled on your first outing because of a root or rock pile you may not have hit just right. This, I think will be very helpful. However, I want to remind you that this is not a buildup thread like Texan has graciously provided, but a tutorial on how to put it to good use. In conclusion, I hope that you will help me in the production of a possible sticky thread that could help the novice offroader, or the pro that might want a bit of advice. Thanks, Tyler. |

If you write it and write it properly I'm sure it could be stickied.
But, the moderating team isn't going to just sticky a bunch of quotes, threads and links. Please use your own words and your own pieces of work to write this "tutorial" and make it look "pretty" and proffessional. Also, I like your first post. Very proffessional.

I wouldn't know, you decide what is best. I hope to make this a really helpful and informative thread. I hope to have a section each for mud, rocks, and etc. I assume I will have this thread deleted, because it is merely discussion. Any ideas are appreciated.

Layer it.
I. General Offroading. -Discussion about the different types of offroading. II. Mudding. -Discussion on techniques used in mudding. III. Crawling. -Discussion on techniques used in crawling. IIIa. Crawling on Rocks. -Discussion on crawling on rocks. IV. Something else. This technique is used in many informational tutorials; works quite well, actually.

Mock it up in word/notepad how you want it setup and go from there. Always start with a base; don't work from the center outward. Start with the general idea then add facts, information and other stuff to it. It'll go a lot easier that way, trust me.
If you need any help PM me or post it here.

Very good idea! I never would have thought of that. And I don't particularly like the way if you type on the forum and make a mistake, you type over the words and have to retype your passage. I can copy and paste, can I not? |

Of course you can.
If you type it up in word (the basis, so it checks for all of your spelling mistakes) and then paste it into the forum's post you can add all the coding (bold, italics, adjustments, etc.) and just use the "preview" button until you wish to submit what you feel is perfection.

I hear Texan is working on a Crawler Tutorial, based on a HS-55...
If I get money to buy a Tamiya Gearbox and a new HS-55, I'll do a build thread. Build threads are useful for getting information and ideas, that's why I try to fill them with pictures.

Thank you Sweed, I do believe that with all the saavy crawlers involved, we can create an excellent bundle of tutorials that will not only help the newcomer to crawling build his machine, but know how to drive it well and conquer the terrain they choose. |

But that takes the fun out of building a crawler. Kit crawler? Only Donzii would buy something like that (). The fun is from figuring stuff out and being creative.

I can understand your points Sweed, but all I plan to do is to create a set of guidlines a builder can take ideas from. I did not follow the Servo Tutorial fully when I performed it, and admitably, it probably does not work as good as it could. I, (perhaps I am like Donzii) enjoy a good set of guidlines. I do not like being left in the dark, and yes, I would purchase a kit crawler. (I have been looking at the Axial-10, lol) I do not want to create a definite set of rules, simply a path you could take from here and there.

Give me some time, but I have been writing a crawling FAQ.. Part of it is on another forum, the rest is on paper.
The servo < the tamiya box though, hands down, the end. Finished that Titan this week..
