Depends on the offroading, if you are crawling/racing/scooting around.

You want to upgrade your wheels and lift it first then the rest is up to the direction you want to take your truck.

a lift and tires are usually necicary... and you might also want to lock the diffs and use a higher rated motor and gears... if its going to be a crawler then you want torque over power... but if its for something like baja or other speed racing then you want power over torque... catch my drift??

an upgrade you can do yourself is the Articulation Mod which gives your rear axle more twist...

What sort of offroading do you want to get into?

Main things are tires, AWD, the lift kit, and lower gearing. You can start from there and have something decent.

However if he is doing a racer the articulation mod isn't necassary, he needs to figure out his direction and go from there.

Use the instructions that come with it, their pretty helpful. If ya lost them, I think I have one laying around that I can scan for ya.

It helps with ground clearance. Better tires come with the kit too.

well i figure the art. mod to be an all-around 4x4 mod... i usually put it on new xmods because i think that the stock articulation is pretty crappy and i prefer being able to navigate gravel without lifting tires...

all im saying is that its a pretty simple mod that he can do if he wants to...

I would suggest:
--Lift Kit
--Big, grippy tires
--GPM dogbones, differentials, the thing that the dogbones go into (Pretty much a tighter drive train)
--Servo motor
--Good articulation

1. Lift kit.
2. Bigger tires (Aoshima's are best).
3. Body lift.
4. Lower gearing for more torque, more suited for off-roading.
5. Sealed bearings, keep dirt and such out of them.

Flipping the front clip isn't the best lift. When you are new, you think that. Trust me, I went through that. I have a crawler ready chassis, but made it into a Baja truck. Remember, you can't make your XMODS conquer everything. BTW, Welcome to XMS! *XMS=Xmodsource*
