Default Project: Yellow Lancer

Found me a couple Xmods when I was on vacation and just had to get them. A 370z for $25, and Corvette ($25) + AWD Kit ($17) with a ($10 off $40 coupon).

But yeah. Friend gave me a Lancer body for free and I made it my drift/show car. Not much to it besides AWD kit and drift kit and lowered. I don't like the dull gray color much and decided I'll paint the car yellow. This will be my first paint job and hopefully come out great. Maybe some suggestions out there on what else to add to it. Only have one picture of it right now. Can post more later though.

Wow, lucky you.
Yellow is a good choice.
Seem some white ones that look very nice.
Might want to consider that.

White is nice, but I haven't seen a bright yellow yet, at least I don't remember seeing it. I plan on making the rims yellow with a white lip. Yes? No?

@ xmodsnsx94, I was thinking the same thing. I got the whole car yellowed down today. But my clumsiness ended messing some parts up since I accidently touched the wet paint. Gonna have to sand one side of the car down. Took a pic of the good side.

nice paintjob that looks really good. as for the touching of the wet paint, sand it lightly at first you might not even need to repaint it.

and by the way is that spraypaint?

thanks
michael

How bad is the "bad side"?

Looks like you're off to a good start. Very nice shade of yellow, too.

Cheers,
Kyle

Looks great, the Krylon paint works really well for xmods & models. I love using it.

Great start!
What I usually do to a Lancer (not an xmod, other models) is paint a body color, then white-out the skirt and the bottom of the front and rear bumpers, with white paint. This gives a rally car look to it.

Not sure about the yellow wheels on a yellow car concept though. But you could always do it, and if it doesn't turn out nice, just spray on a coat of a different color.

Still got some work to do to it, but here it is as of right now.

What you guys think? I gotta sand down a few parts after it's cured more.
And black in some parts like the grill since my masking tape kinded failed. Ahha.

@ donzio, that was the good side, ahhah.

Not bad, needs a few touch ups. But looks really good.

Also gotta love how krylon paint drys in under 10 mins. lol

And within less than twenty for hours you can start sanding on it & other things too. lol

Yeahh, first paint job I've done. May have to spray some more on the skirts. Everything else looks pretty nice. I was bored last night and made my own exhaust.

Now, I just gotta leave my baby alone. I wish I can do this to my 3000GT, I have some spots starting to fade. T^T It sucks to drive to Walmart, park the car and notice she's starting to lose paint.

EDIT: If I get tired of the yellow, I think I wanna go red to match my car. Any suggestions on how to start over without destroying my Evo? And if you could, be specific on what I'll need cause I lack common sense when people suggest things, I go for exactly what they say and common sense only exists when I do stuff myself and actually know what's going on.

Nice job! looks like it needs some touching up but it looks really unique. Not many people choose to paint a Lancer yellow. Or even own one in real life. I've seen like 1 yellow evo in person. All others were white, black, blue, etc lol exhaust looks good too, gives the car a nice little accent in the back.

Haha, thanks. When I finish this, I plan on do a model body project. But for now, I'll be making this one looking as best as I can. Before I registered for this forum, I've seen videos of your drifting. Some sick stuff, when I play around and drift with this, I only get a long good drift every once in a while.

@ WhiteCharisma: Yeah, that'd be nice. Update.. I changed the spoiler, it's one of the spoilers from the black Skyline's bodykit but it's lower. Since the spoilers black, I might black out the rims too but leave yellow on the lip.

@Banana: I broke one of my antennas. LOL. I "fused" it when a piece of my Skylines unused sideskirt to screw it on the rear bumper. Works and stays put great. ;]

EDIT: Here's a picture.

Probably switch back to the stock.

That is an interesting method, but you will have better results if you use a paper clip to fix the "muffler" in place. That way you can manipulate and position the muffler almost exactly where you want it. You also avoid destroying any XMOD parts as well.

I like the project overall as I am a fan of yellow Evo's. Great choice for a wing as well; did you have to modify it for fitment or did it line up with the stock holes? At any rate, good luck with the project!

@ drftko: The spoiler, I super glued the pieces on the spoiler, & screwed them in the holes.

Can someone tell me the easiest way to make deep dish rims with the orange Corvette rims?
I wanna be able to paint the rim black and paint the lip yellow.
