Default What color?

I'm bringing back my old skyline, it's already got 2 coats of primer on it. but I need to decide what colors to paint it. I'm fairly certain I'm going to put one wide racing stripe down the middle.

I've got this really cool dark purple color, I was thinking that with a silver stripe.

or black with a red stripe.....

what do you guys think? any other ideas?

i dont really care for strips, but i think the purple by itself would look nice. maybe even have a tiny light purple or dark blue pin-strip down the side

black and red are always good but the purple and silver would look good and also original

it's a VERY dark purple. called black and blue pearl. I'd kind like to use it....any other ideas for a color that might work better with it?

I'm not doing the classic camaro/viper etc. dual stripe. but one fat one. I usually agree with you...but I think this'll look real nice.

i got an idea, dunno if it will work...

is ur purple paint metallic? either way, after you prime ur car, paint the silver strip down the center of ur car. then paint over the whole thing (strip included). i dunno if it will work (hopefully someone chimes in) but the silver MIGHT shine through the purple and give it a metallic purple strip going down the center. kinda like a hiden paint that you can only see in the correct lighted area. just an idea.

sounds like a neat idea. but it's a VERY dark purple, so I highly doubt it'll show through, even with a very thin coat.

I painted the silver onto a crappy body I have, and I'll mask the stripe and paint the purple this afternoon. we'll see how the combination works.....

I really want to use this purple, it looks sweet on my model Nova....but the only colors I've got that would work with it are silver and gold.

bump for new pics!

OK, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna do it. I used an old camaro model body to test it. 2 thin coats of primer, a thick coat of silver, masked the stripe, than a thick coat of the purple. the use of a thick coat instead of multiple thin coats makes for a crappy finish, and I did a sloppy masking job....but you get the idea.

here's the skyline as it is now:

the test body:

and a few pics of the color on my monster nova (the hood is flat black...it's not supposed to be purple). from a few different angles with the flash on so you can see how dynamic this color is!

and a pic in ambient light with the flash off:

the one thick coat yeilded a lighter color than the multiple thin coats (on the nova). my girlfriend says I should go for the lighter color on the skyline. What do you guys think?

also, I only painted the silver under the purple on the top of the model, not on the sides, and the final color looks the same. this color is too metallic for the silver to show through it....but I like the ghost stripe idea! it gives me more than a few ideas!

Yeah i like how you shaved the back bumper as well.
The white base coat is just a idea. I did that to mine and it brought out the silver.
