Default Donziikid's Firebird:

Ok, it's my brother's old Xmod, but hey, it's mine now.

This is a project I've been wanted to do since last fall, but the weather got to bad so it sat all winter just primer. I finally had nice enough weather to pull out the airbrush and lay on a layer of silver.

Base coat: Light Grey Primer.
Middle coat: Silver.
Top coat: Red Metallic

It will be a two-tone job seperated by the top and sides of the body. I'm not sure which would look better as the opposite colors; I'm thinking red-metallic sides and silver top. Opinions on that choice?

Updates whenever I can work on it.

Cheers,
Kyle.

I haven't seen a firebird project lately. Sounds good. Nice color choices too. It should look pretty darn cool. Any chassis mods or even a chassis? Any big planes. Can't wait to see the turn out. Good luck.

No major chassis mods to speak of; bascically just the essentials from RS like bearings, springs and stage two. I'll be sharing the chassis with my Mustang because the chassis that was meant for this body crapped out because my brother bashed it too much.

I hope when I'm done it'll just be a trophy body. I don't really run with a body on because I'm not that good of a driver.

Nice! Put red on the bottom, I think. I'd always put darker colors on the bottom of a two-tone scheme.

Paint looks really smooth - nice job, Donzii!

It doesn't have to be fast to be a cool car.

I hope to have my evo as trophy body. It was my first xmod and it has been through alot.

I run without the body on too. Unless i have a beater body. I usually drive indoors anyways.Stupid chair legs.

I had the same reaction here.

Silver with a dark red/maroon top, IMO.

Good to see Ashton's F-bird is in good hands now.

Everyone can paint. It's just a matter of if they can paint well or not.

Change of plans:

I'll more than likely be painting the raised part on the hood black or silver. I'm not sure if I want to carry that stripe down the body or not.

To do list:
1. Paint windows black.
2. Paint trim silver.
3. Finish hood/body lines.
4. Add black to the grill.
5. Take better pictures.

Debateable.

It probably would have turned out a little lighter if I would have left the base coat as a white instead of a darker silver. But, it's a learning experience (first Xmods body I've painted, I've only done one other Firebird, but that was a model body).

Paint in order from bottom to top:
1. Stock Purple Color.
2. Light Grey Primer.
3. Flat White Primer.
4. Gloss Silver.
5. Midnight Blue Metallic.

In that picture (Firebird) you can see the midnight blue metallic used a first time. That was painted right ontop of the white plastic used to form the body, so it's a little bit lighter of a color. I'll try to get a picture of both side by side when they're completed to show the difference in color; hopefully I'll be able to find that body somewhere...

I hate the humidity of Michigan!!! The midnight blue metallic orange peeled and I just spent the last half hour wetsanding with 600 grit sandpaper to get all of that off and back down to the stock color/primer coat! BAH!

Tomorrow (hopefully) I'll lay a layer of primer and then a layer of color. I ran out of midnight blue metallic so the color will be changed again..

Bah!

Wow, that's impressive!

I really liked the blue, what color do you have planned now?

Well, it was impressive.. Now I'm back to this stage, ain't she a beaut:

Can't wait to get this one started, again.. I have planned a gloss black body with silver and white accents. Where those accents will be, I'm not sure, but I have time to think about it when the primer is drying.

Cheers,
Kyle.

I'd go black, but only with silver accents. The white will just add clutter to the overall car, IMO.

For accents, paint the silver below the red line:

And then something on the hood.

Just offering my opinions!

Rawr. Update.

All that's left is details and gloss coat. I think I'm just going to leave it all one color and start on a new project. I think this body is cursed when it comes to paint.
