Tutorial: How to search
I'm tired of so many questions being asked without people seraching. The answers can be found easily [in most cases] by searching. But people appear that they dont know how to. Which is sad, I know. Heres a tutorial. Btw, dont mind my friends at the bottom of the screenshots.
I'll be searching for " Why wont my car go? " You can start by clicking this button: Type in what your looking for. The little thing would pop up when you use Internet Explorer, but when if you use Safari, it would bring you to another page. Look at the second picutre if your using Safari. As you can see there are MANY results. Just click one, like I've done here and look to see if any of these are the problem. If theres nothing in the thread, keep looking. The last one had lots of info, and I found my answer. So I can stop seraching [unless you want more info] and best yet, I didnt have to start a new thread and **** off many members I'm also going to add to this tutorial. PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE POSTING. If you still double post, dont know how-to post pictures etc... re-read the rules!!!! Mods/admins I got approved by SS for posting this, and I know it's in the wrong section. As people tend to read the "General" part of the forum more then any others. I feel this needs to be viewed by the new ones. Last edited by dontspamme; 09-17-2008 at 12:36 AM.. |

You can lead a donkey to water but you can't make him drink. Same concept applies here; it's been said over and over again to many newer members that searching is one of best features this forum has to offer but that doesn't mean they're going to actually listen and apply this feauture to their forum usage. To find answers quicker and easier than waiting for a members reply you should use the search feature; that applies to all members, not just newer members.
I'm not sure which moderator/admin stickied it, but I'll back up that sticky and say a tutorial well written, dontspamme. However, don't be surprised if it's not used all too often..

I cant believe that this was actually needed. Its posted everywhere: Its even in the rules. With that said its also part of every forum...
This is so un-epic. Its actually sad... However props to dontspamme as he actually decided to spend his time helping people that need it pretty bad... |

very good. mabye we can modify the site to where the new person cant post or anything until they agree to read da rules, kinda like how they cant look at the b/s/t section. like make em type: I,(insert name here) agree to fallow the rules and understand i will be called a noob for ever if i break any of the rules stated above. or somthing along those lines.

Just thought I would add this for members using Safari. (Maybe add this the original post also.)
After clicking the "search" button, it will not have the little pop up thing, but instead, it will bring you here: At which point, it should be self explanatory... You can search by key words (with more than 3 letters) or by username.

DRFTKO, thanks for sticking this. Thanks for the positive comments everyone!! As for every new one here reading it, I might as well send a PM to everyone that signs up with this thread in it.
imnotmikal, I'll add that into the original post. Last edited by dontspamme; 09-21-2008 at 02:06 PM.. |

If im not mistaken, everybody that signs up is automatically sent a direct link to the rules. I cant remember if its like that here on XMS, but it is on some other forums... Maybe the forum lets the mods change that setting?
