Thumbs up Project18 and Project Ultimate w/VIDS

well boys and girls, it's time for college again and that means i have some time to get back into things with xmods and rc cars. I have a couple project plans for the winter and hopefully i can keep things to a moderate budget and not go out of control like i did last year... anyways these are my two main plans for now:

Project18: This isn't an xmod project at all, but an Associated 18R on road 1:18 scale car. My plans for this aren't too crazy, well maybe they are, but the amount of time and effort it's gonna take to get this built isn't really that much. I'm buying a mini RAGE 5.8 kV brushless ESC and motor, which should pretty much double, if not triple, how fast this thing goes. I've also installed a CF driveshaft and have a fan to blow on the motor to keep things cool. I don't really have anything planned for driveline upgrades at the moment, but if things break, then aluminum parts may be necessary. I'll have pics and vids once i get this thing running (should be late this week or early next week).

The Ultimate: I'm sure all of us have dreamed of having the ultimate xmod. I remember a thread a long time ago on this topic and the ultimate xmod seems to be different for everyone, so this is just my take on what the ultimate xmod is to me. As most of you know, I already have a full aluminum, lith powered, hot motor xmod, which i am going to use as the base for it's final transformation. I want to do some hobby grade electronics via a complete losi micro-t elecronics package. I already have a micro-t so this is actually a pretty low budget project for me, all it really requires is a little bit of time on my part. I know the stock micro-t EP can handle a 7.4 V battery, but my question is regarding the FET's on the speed control, can they handle a hot motor like the PN Racing SO4? thats the motor i have in the car now and its fast, i dont really want to swap it out for something lesser. Any help would be appreciated.

Also, once i get going, there will be lots of update pics and i'm sure i could throw a couple vids in along the way too.

other than that i have no idea about your motor...the only motor ive used in any of my micro-t's is the atomic BB and a custom from my hobby shop...

Why not? I'd tear apart any RC that I have...

Good luck on the "ultimate xmod" but however, if you feel like spending a little cash, you should get a Novak Spy ESC if you want to go Hobby Grade. Then you can run just about any motor you want, without worry...

I'll be following this closely, as I suspect it should be interesting...

Later,

So it turns out that brushless motors are pretty friggin quick. just for now Project18 is up and running and its fast, very, very fast. But not fast enough, so in time I do believe the car is going to see some more power in the form of an 11.1V aircraft lipo setup. Anyways, some teaser pics and probably a vid later tonite.

Heres the video i promised earlier, nothin too crazy, but its still quick. I had also been running this for about 10 minutes before this too, so its not on full battery, it does go a little faster. And in case any of you havent seen one of these before, they have rubber tires and this thing is running on fairly rough concrete.

yeah i think i *gasp* like this thing a lot better than any xmod i own. mostly because i haven't really put that much money into it, but its already super quick. to get an xmod going super quick takes a lot of time and a fair amount of money (although i do know some cheap budget ways to go fast). plus hobby grade stuff is nicer to work on and more reliable, i have really grown to dislike the xmod electronics.

Calm down, boys... Don't argue... We all know its an RC18R and it is > than the Pro Pulse

Anyway, looks great. I'm actually thinking about picking up the 18R with the 'Niteline' body *cough*Skyline*cough* and doing a brushless setup as well.

How does it handle?

Oh, and looks like your servo and transmitter/receiver setup should be the next to go

Lots of travel. Throw some sway bars on it, lock the diffs and go drift!

That's sick. But cars vs. girls in college?

yeah i saw the niteline a couple days ago, looks pretty cool, i might look into picking one of those up, but for now, i have to stay true to myself and go with the "kamino" ahem WRX. took most of the stickers off yesterday too, looks way better now. handles great, but then again, i'm used to xmods. The steering is very responsive, fairly precise and the sensitivity is adjustable. i like it, and i'm definately considering throwing some more money at it...
