FETs: what happens if....
Well i know when you stack you put a lump of solder on one side and solder the legs together in lines on the other side but what if you put a lump of solder on both sides?

was nothing connected to the motor terminals? if not, it may still have a chance of being able to work. fix it and try it. if it doesn't work anymore, then you've fried em.

Usually you can see if the fet is burnt. Look for a white spot on top or a little circlish discolorization on top.
There are tutorials on here just do a search before you do somthing you don't understand. Atomicmods has VERY clear tutorials as well. Don't just start doing somthing your not sure about unless you wanna destroy your car. check this link. (Alot of the Gen1 tut's will work for evos aswell) http://www.atomicmods.com/Categories...tallation.aspx http://www.atomicmods.com/Categories...D_Generation_1 http://www.atomicmods.com/Categories....aspx#XMOD_Evo Last edited by TripleXmodder(akaXXX); 12-27-2008 at 02:10 AM.. |

you try it AFTER you fix it so you don't fry anything.
just fix it FIRST and try it. if it doesn't work, you either resoldered it wrong or the fets are fried. if it doesn't work and your connection is correct, you could have damaged them beyond function with the heat from your soldering iron. you most likely will have to replace those fets. and are you sure you put the fets in the right place? or if you got the correct fets to begin with? just seems so much like you don't know squat about electronics. not to be intentionally offensive, but it seems that way to me.

im just not used to electric cars because my first rc was a nitro so thats what iv been using most of the time, no esc just simple.

well i never knew that.
but common sense should be your guide in electronics. if it doesn't look right, then it's probably not gonna work and may damage something. but nitro has its share of complexities. like the carb adjustment and if your glow plug is too hot or cold, etc. then there's that pesky engine varnish that you have to do an engine dissasembly to get it cleaned, the "correct" amount of oil to put into your nitro... it gets complicated sometimes too.
