Little side track here, but I'm kinda new to Ford engines. Which do you think is better, a 5.0 or a 5.4? I'm thinking about building an engine from the ground up for my project, just need to know what engine is the best upgrade platform. Either engine could be obtained very easily from my local junkyard, as there are plenty of f-body mustangs and f150s.
theres nothing wrong with a stock mustang, there were 125,000+ hatchbacks made in 88, there you take out the amount that are not 5.0 or auto, that leaves about.... lets say 70,000-, then you remove the ones that are on the track, now the number is lets say 40,000-, then remove the crashed ones, wso we are looking at about 35,000-, then we can remove the GT models, so there are probable in the area of 30,000 88 mustang LX 5.0 left in the U.S. that is why im going stock. these are not real facts there are only estaments that i think are close to being right

as for motors, just get what ever you think is right for what ever your putting it in

I hope you don't think the LX is rare by any stretch of the definition...

Nothing exciting, true. But nothing wrong with a restoration.

stock keeps things simple. Stock cars don't blow up, prematurely wear out, or otherwise quit on you nearly as much as a modified car will...not saying I have anything against mods, but ones that are big and irreversible can be troublesome. Stock looks cool, I agree.

some updates

saturday i washed the pi$$ out of it, so the primer gray is actually gray now, it did have a yellowish brown tint to it, so heres a few pics

so theres the pics of the car now clean, i was talking with my dad/ first body guy for the car, and it only needs about 1/2 day of work to be ready for paint, but my dad hurt his shoulder pretty bad so it will have to wait for a while

I dont know why anyone would want to convert to a GT,cause the GT is actualiy slower than the LX.

Anyways nice project man.Cant wait to see what happens next.

i dont know about all that, the LX is quick but the GT has more power due to different cam, different comp, different exhaust, and so on. LX is the most commonly raced

thanks, im planing to sand the rest of the clear off this weekend

I was reading a mustang mag and they said that the GT(stock) ran a 14.40-14.50,LX(stock) 14.30s,LX notchback(stock) 13.80.

Anyways, hope your dad gets better and I cant wait till you get some paint on that bad boy.

sounds like made up stats, the GT has the most power out of the 3, the coupe should have a faster time because it is the lightest,

thanks, he wont ever be able to paint again so my bro is goin to help do it

Well they said that the reason the GT was the slowest was because it was heavier than the LX.

Good luck with the whole painting process

yeah its a little heavier, by like 300 lbs, its just cause of the power locks and windows, heaver wing, body kit, leather interior, and so on
