ESC blew on the 1/16 revo need some help.

Hey guys well I was driving my merv with my dad and then we where going then he hit the back of mine not hard at all. Next thing I know is that its not moving period. I use a lipo but it was fully chargerd so I knew it was not that.

I tried it with a fully charged nimh and all I see is a very very faint red light flashing very fast. Once I turn the tx off the led to goes solid green then I turn the tx back on and then back to the red light.


Well incase I do have to send it in I want to know what I can replace it with that will work with the stock brushless motor.

Preferably one that is pretty cheap but does really really well.


A plus would be if it can be fine tuned with either a computer or even better a spektra DX2

just sounds like the set-up has been knocked

im not familial with the set-up of that esc , so just follow the instructions for throttle/brake settings

it turns out its my servo? How can the servo effect that. I unhooked the servo and it worked fine plugged it back in and fail.


What should i replace it with?

A direct replacement from either Traxxas or find a better servo from Futaba, HiTec, JR or other well known servo companies. I'm not sure if the 1:16th E-Revo uses a standard sized servo or a micro, so I can't help with suggestions.

It uses a micro. I want to get a really good one that is fast and smooth and will last

Do you have a price range/limit in mind? Haha. I can find you a nice full-metal and digital servo from JR, but it'll cost you about $100.

Hahaha. Well... I don't know the difference between digital and I am guessing analog

Pretty much one that will last and be up to your standards Donzii but with out going over say 30-35

The stock servos are known for being weak on these, lots of people upgrade them before they fry.. I've been lucky so far, but I don't drive mine as hard as most.

I've heard a lot of guys say this one is good, and it fits your price range. It's got metal gears, so I would think it's ok.

No personal experience though.

Use Pro-Pulse Recievers and ESC? They're FM. :O and cheap...

I was wondering if i could swap the cases from that and the stock servo.

I want to do this hoping it will be waterproof again.

Will this water proof it or is the stock servo itself water proof or if I swap the cases will it be water proof?

Servos are fairly water resistant already, I wouldn't worry too much (but obviously don't submerge the thing intentionally and try to kill it, lol).

I have a hard time seeing the internals of the HiTec being a direct swap into the Traxxas. You may be able to try, but I kinda doubt it'll work since many things could be different (bearing size, gear size, gear count, motor size, control board size, etc)

Ohhhh Thanks Donzii I have plans for the burnt servo to use it as a light switch (learned how to awhile ago) Would you say that is a good servo for what it is going into?

Also off topic questions...what causes a servo to die and what is happening when it does. And whats the deal with brushless servos? Are they better and is it pretty much a small brushless motor inside rather than brushed and what are the advantages to it?

Typically when a servo dies there are three main causes:
1. Gears get "stripped" and bind up, causing them to seize.
2. The brushes on the motor break off, rendering the motor useless and unable to turn the gears.
3. The boards blow because something arcs or they get water damage.

And whats the deal with brushless servos? Are they better and is it pretty much a small brushless motor inside rather than brushed and what are the advantages to it?

They're expensive, but they're faster and more "reliable" because they "last longer" than a brushed counterpart. Something as simple as a backyard basher of a Mini-E-Revo they are pointless; stick them in a RC that needs speed and precision of a racecar, you'll "need" them more. You'll see them mostly in aerobatic planes and helicopters because every millisecond counts.

So if say the car got hit pretty hard from behind could that do it?
