Airbrushing/Spray painting Universal Stand
Using nothing other than Legos. Stand rotates via rod that doesn't interfere with painting process. Holds any Mini-Z, Xmod, or even 1/24 model kit bodies without any additional modifications or alterations. For Mini-Z bodies, stand accommodates for glued-in side clips. http://skv012altd.blogspot.com/

2 amends I'd make- raise it even more to be able to reach the bottom skirts w/ the AB easily, and cover the stand w/ paper to keep paint off of it.
My personal fave is that I made it hold the bodies ina stable manner and allowing for the side clips to clear.

Interesting concept. I like it quite a bit.

Very creative. I made a similar one but no rotating.
So you used a 'wheel' as the rotating piece? if not,. that would work aswell. Later, T.I.M

this is neat.
i've made a few turntables from scratch using styrene and aluminum stock but this one is so simple that it's better then ANYTHING i built. i guess i'm so focussed on thinking outside the box that i never stop to check what's in it. (^^write that down^^lol) simplicity FTW. any chance you would break down the build of the stand for tutorial purposes? what blocks to use and any possible improvements? one improvement i could think of is a hand crank to spin it so you dont have to put oily fingers on the shell.

maybe use some lego technic pieces to get the 45 degree bevel gears and make a small hand crank.
possibly use the same setup to make a flat display turntable that turns slowly using a geared electric motor?

Ok one at a time then.
Bondo, breakdown isnt really necessary because you just need ANY one rotating piece. I used a larger flat 4x4 cylinder w/ a square 4x4 base for stability, but even lil 2x2 will do. How you make a stable base doesn't matter. The rails on the top and their positions + 2x6s up top are self-explanitory. D, gears/motor would be neat, but IMO add too much to this simple thing. Its beauty is the simplicity. One thing that would improve it is to make the top ball jointed, but at the same time simple height addition will allow for perfect lower skirt reach. Lastly, I added a paper shroud to protect it from paint and I'll be test running this joint tomorrow. Gotta repaint my EK9 1/24 yellow, then test how enamel will flow, and paint my eX-Driver project car #2/2.

I really like it, I like it enough that I'm probably going to use it on my GTR. SKV, another great little mod/trick. Thanks
