King of kings.
No lipos. No alum. Just the ultimate upgrade- Ko Propo 2.4ghz radio. I got the pot connected and all, but when it recenters it sometimes becomes very jittery before it settles down and sometimes not perfectly in the center. Any thoughts? I didn't solder anything to or from the Z board, so stock servo and pot are used flush.

Actually got tipped off by a friend why it jitters: pot must sit completely still and mine has a fraction of a degree rotation which is prolly screwing everything else up. I'm working to fix that and will update after thats done.

Since the pot wasn't an ideal fit, I'll have to play w/ my TX settings to smooth it out. After that, if it works the way it should, it will be indeed be far superior to any AM RC.
Keep in mind that #2 goal of this project is to utilize the Z board/servo/pot untouched by modding the xmod chassis, so the project retains the homebrew essence and some of its flaws.

I got it now pretty good. Used a spare 02 servo assy part that secures that pot, added a lil leg to it and extended it to sit tight in the alloted space. Trimmed front cover's bars that press the pot in and viola.
Now I just need to tweak TX settings and prolly start using XM motor to avoid having to revese brushes.

or http://s452.photobucket.com/albums/q...=king24vid.flv Well, no offence to anyone here, but I want this project as agressive as possible.

nice....But i would still get GPM cvd's and shave them to fit MA-010 rims cause xmod rims are not round.Plus i would go with GPM knuckles to take out the play in the wheels.Thats all i have on my car but im waiting on my board.

Pop into product review section- a friend showed me the adjustable gpm knuckles and I just had to buy them to try them. These look much better than the regular ones we all see on asiatees or atomicmods.
As is its actually not too bad as far as wobble goes and thats surprising.

Yep. Funny enough, even despite Mars' age(and it has been discontinued for years now) it still costs more than even stock Zs together with the 2.4 module. By itself its about 80-100.
I'll paraphrase reflex racing here- "better TX is probably the single most important upgrade for a real race car", and after playing with Mars I'm starting to see that. It will let you compensate for almost any car flaw and after that will let you fine fine tune everything to your tastes. So even 2.4 fact aside, this lil hatchie already owns other blowdriers.

I'll start fine tuning with track time tomorrow. If it behaves poorly vs Zs, then I'll slap on GPM adjustable knuckles and try it again. If that yields poor results, I'll switch to MA rims.
My alum XM rims look and spin nice and even, so I don't know where you guys are getting the whole imperfect shape issue from. If anything its the remaining wheel wobble after my homebrew fix.

It will... i have hotracing rear knuckles with no wobble at all.I have GPM fronts with the 3 screw and it has a little wobble.I ordered the new GPM adjustable ones see how they work.Hopefully monday they will be here.
In the pic it looks like your missing a screw in the servo case to the chassis that could give you problems. Last edited by bosco72; 05-09-2009 at 07:49 PM.. |
