I've been wondering the same thing. When I go bid one on the price just goes out of my reach to continue to bid on it. I just keep on trying and maybe I'll get lucky one time.

IMO, the best place to get Xtrucks is in BST since there is a smaller audience of people who want to buy it, prices are nonnegotiable, and there isn't a crazed person who bumps the price upwards of $60.

hehehehehe ill keep an eye out for one. Have you figured a way to get that 3mm shaft through the 2mm hole in the can or are you just going to drill a larger hole straight through it?

Well, you can just pop the bushing out and it is a larger hole. The gearbox itself doesn't need the bushing, and when you screw it into the can it will stay where it needs to stay. That is what Im figureing.

another random idea =P is it possible at all, to move the motor to the back behind where the "cabin" area is? and move things to the front or back depending on where they fit, and make a full vehicle interior? I personally think it would be possible to the right person that knows there stuff!

It isn't neccessary to move the motor to do a interior. Check out this build thread from the great Bondo...

Yeah, it has been done, but I am not sure where the threads are.. someone had big woofers like in the bed off the truck... and stuff, pretty cool builds.

Well, good news and bad news.

I made everything. Got it all to work.

The 'dummy' 130 can with gear.

The HS-55 with brass gear from a larger servo.

How I got the gear mounted on the armature:

See this cute lil' black thing? Well, it's the locknut that's on the Kyosho autosclaes.

And the gear I got from a larger servo. It has this little brass gear in b/w which I took out and put in the locknut:

Put a hole through it and glued it on

The blank arm

The is the finished arm that's in the can

The lil' brass thing you see on the gear(it's the thing at the end of he endbell, the pole goes through it) is to make sure the gear doesn't move back and forth too easily when it's inside the can. Yes, it's not glued to the pole.
The magnets are still in the can, when the gear slips, the gear moves back so it doesn't shred to pieces. And when it stops rotating, the magnets move the gear back in place. Slipper clutch.

The modified endbell:

Comparison

Gears line up perfectly

How it would be mounted

And if I want to use an xmods steering servo.
Take apart an HS-55,

Grab a gear(YOu can also use the gear from the xmods steering gears. Work aswell. That's wher I actually got mine. Even though I took these pics.)

Finished product

Bad news. I just saw this:

It's NOT just a servo on top. It's a whole gearbox
No wonder I couldn't get the car to move an inch.
Stupid me. Lol.

Atleast I can still use the hs-55....

Later, T.I.M

lots of good info there tim nice work bro

i like your work you have done on this but the first version is a bit strange , why not just use an hs-55 directly to the xmod gearbox as we have been doing for some time now ?

the second one is great and i may have a motor for you to try on that baby :

what did you use as the gear inside the can what is it from ?

I'm not sure if that's possible or not. I will have to wait and see when I get the gearbox in hand. I have been emailing back and forth with a specialist in the field of robotics from polou and he is making some suggestions and helping me find the perfect gearbox. I'll be sure to post the results of what he suggests... I did tell him about the 2mm shaft issue.

Have you thought of making an adapter? like screw on adapter similar to the ones on pinion gears? Yea Polou=Nice friendly site.

Btw Just because its in my mind right now and isnt big enough to make a new thread out of it, whats an RV pcb? Is it a radline or what?
