To start, any gain you see from the capacitor is going to be minimal and your final thought is going to be "****, that was a waste of time".
Essentially, capacitors store a charge/flash, we've concluded (w/ the help of ZX9RBart) that capacitors can be best utilized by soldering one side on the board where your negative battery wire comes in and the other side to the pad where your positive battery wire comes in. The reason for this is that the capacitor stays charged continuously and if supply<demand when the motor draws current from the board, the stored charge in the capacitor can compensate for that giving you smoother acceleration. Again, I've done a cap mod, the results were minimal. Unless you've just ran out of stuff to do to your car and you're bored, i wouldn't even bother.

Do you have an evo chassis or a gen1 chassis? On either chassis, just find where the battery pack ties into the board and hook it up to the two pads on the board where the red and black wires from the batt pack tie into. In all honesty, the cheapest upgrades with the best results for your xmods would be a lithium battery setup, metal bearings and alloy knuckles.
