cheap pcb upgrade
i found a cheap alternative to putting a miniZ or iwaiver board in an xmod.
first i tried a micro-t pcb i had laying around after it went brushless. while it was a great improvement from the stock ep it still left allot to be desired plus, the reverse delay was killing me. i picked up a couple of revell rpmz 1/24 nascar kits from walmart a while back for $20 on clearance so i swiped one of the pcb's from the rpmz and put it in the xmod. the result was better than the micro-t pcb but the stearing was still a little slow so i also put in the servo motor from the rpmz.the rpmz servo motor seems to be stronger than the stock xmod servo motor and it is a direct drop in, pinion and all. i an quite pleased with the results. it seems to have better throttle control at lower speeds than the micro-t pcb did also the steering feels more responsive and best of all no reverse delay. the revell rpmz can still be found at most walmarts on clearance between $15-$30(depending on location) plus it comes with a more or less "hobby grade tx" for about $20 you could have just about the single best upgrade for your xmod, a better pcb. |

unfortunately, there is no brake feature with the rpmz. it's still a worthwhile trade, brakes for improved range and full digi-propo. i don't even use the brakes on my miniZ much either. |

I would really like to get all the specs on this board and compare it to the Xmod PCB and read a good review or somthing. If it actually is better I think I would do this to some xmods, definately. But for now I got to hear it from alot more people to get a good sense of the benefits.

the main benefit is you get to ditch the cheap folding tx and use a hobby grade
tx. the one that comes with the rpmz is decent compared to the foldy one but, i use the futaba 2pl for mine, it is computerized and has e.p.a. and 10 model memory.you cant use a hobby grade tx with the stock xmod pcb. i haven't tested the limits of the mosfets yet but it pushes the stage2 motor better than the stock unit did. as far as specs are concerned, like i said i haven't found the info on the mosfets but they are 8938 for the steering and the motor if anyone cares to investigate. as far as lipo's i'm not sure. i run on a rcp track and lipo's are a little overkill for my purpose.i use the xmod to race against miniZ ma-010's. my miniZ club races 2wd(mr-02) and awd(ma-010) i have a mr-02 but no ma-010 so they let me use the xmod. it's no miniZ but it's better than standing around and watching other people race. once and a while the modified xmods get the best of the miniZ's. |

well i have my board from my rpmz in my $15 clearance transformers xmod and i'm going to race it this saturday against miniZs and maybe another xmod.
should be a good trial for the rpmZ board and i'll probably post a link to the video of the main heat. |

if you can find one you could always buy it an harvest the pcb, put it back in the box, bring it back to walmart and say it doesn't work and you want your money back.
..............but thats not nice!!!!!!!! |

haha. that is really smart. lol. I just waned to know one thing. how good is the rest of the car. i have never seen one before, but as fr as function, how good is the rear pod and damper system on the rpmz?

actually the car is kind of like a slightly larger miniZ mr-01 with aa cell holders instead of aaa.
i have one that i have been building up. allot of miniZ parts will fit on it with some modification. i'm converting mine from 1/24 to 1/28 so a miniZ body will fit. i have miniz diff,rm pod,c.f. t-plate,miniZ wheels on my rpmZ project. i also use aaa cell and trays on it to reduce weight. it's actually a better car than an xmod and it's especially good for 1/24-1/25 model body conversions. the main reason i'm messing with the xmod is so i can race awd with my miniZ club until i finally buy a ma-010. although it is fun tinkering with the xmod and trying to get them to do what they weren't designed to do. |
