my original plan was it all white.. and give the hood.. the bumpers.. sideskirt and the wing a "carbon fiber" look.. but then i noticed we didnt have white paint and the carbon fiber style is gonna be hard to do now my plans are to do the body and bumpers yellow. have black twin strips all through the top and hood/bumpers ect.. and have the wing all black and where the strip intersects.. yellow pics after i sanded it down.. using ultra fine sanding paper(not wet.. im using a can to spray it on so... no need to make it wet)

i put it together(without screws) the mess i made just masking it up O.o

the paint you use has no bearing on wetsanding. wetsanding is to keep your sandpaper clean and lubricate the surface while sanding. BTW, you're going to have to get it wet at some point or another. it needs to be washed after every sanding or any time you touch it with your bare hands or you'll end up with a mess. what is "ultra fine" sandpaper? if it's finer then 600 grit then you might have some adhesion problems. espescially on a base coat with no primer.

O.o.. i guess then i've gotten my facts mixed up.. ill probably have to re-sand it...
I finished painting the black strips(well the base of it) here are some pics(the strip goes all throughout the body) and the yellow was super neon yellow, so I'm going to go buy some better yellow paint P.S. this has been done with the can of paint you saw above(no air brush pressurizer.. just the can and it's instructions and btw.. this paint is probably around 5-6 years old

This is only 1 coat.. you do 1 coat of dark color then 4 coats for lighter color(it evens out... all my cousins have been playing with the bigger and better r/c cars(like the HPI.. somthing i forgot or his T2)(and my cousins are like 25-30 years old) and they know some nice tricks for painting.. when it comes out you'll see

it all depends on the colors and quailty good quality requires many coats and a pressuriEd air brush

sounds like you got alot mixed up...
we're not out to get you man,we just don't want you to go through the same mistakes that alot of us have. so far, everyone that has posted here has had some REALLY nice paintjobs. go back and check em out just so you can see that you're getting advice from people in the know and not some schlubs who like picking on noobies. your cousins might be whizzez when painting lexan but the biggest difference here is that this paint is going to get beat up. like others have mentioned, lexan shells are painted on the inside so the lexan protects the paint and you don't need nearly as much prep work. my advice is to stop! go through this site and check out some of the projects and tutorials. get a mental picture of what needs to be done before you even start. Quote:
you don't have to start with a primer but it helps. your primer should be no more then 2 thin coats. all you want to do here is take the original color out and give your new basecoat something to grab onto. the color is'nt really all that important but you want to stay within light/dark. if your new color is dark blue then you would want a darker primer. if your new color is sky blue then you would want a lighter color primer. your final color should only be enough coats(depends on the paint) to achieve full coverage. Quote:
it has NOTHING to do with the color of the paint or "many coats". you don't even need an airbrush to get a quality PJ. a good bit of our members bring excellent paintjobs with spraypaint but they actually follow whats tried and true. trying to reinvent the game will get you nowhere fast. also, don't double post.^^^ use your EDIT BUTTON............................................ .................................................. .................................................. ...........right here.V

not all top quality paint jobs require an air brush. lookup pocket change gone brushless, and wideload. both are top quality paint jobs, done with rattle cans.
