Default The X-rod

This is close enough to being finished that I can show you what I've done. The only thing left is to mount the electronics, which will go on the headline of the cab.

It started off as a concept, how to make an open-wheeled rod. The only logical solution was a gen1 front end as it could be alleviated down to it's bone essential parts, with plenty of room for a 1/25 motor to fit in. I also wanted wheely pulling action, so I chose to use a truck rear end and a radline SR motor...

I used a 1/25 jimmy flintstone chopped channeled Ford body, because it was the meanest I could find.

Body mounted:

The motor was a donation from Cryogenicdeath that I much appreciated...and it was a beaut'.

Due to space I had to go hobby grade on the electronics and servo, the micro-t was sourced:

Since the photos I have fixed the front radiator and added windows all around, the final step is to mount the electronics and secure the body with velcroe, and final detailing.

Any comments/suggestions welcome.

This is amazing! I would love to see some pics on how you mounted the rear truck part on the Gen 1 chassis. Perhaps even a video of this being driven around.

What kind of EP/ESC you using? Lemme know how long that battery lasts when running around.. I'm curious

This is amazing though

Wow, thats amazing! I had the same idea before, but could never figure out the front end. I don't have any gen1s, so that idea never came to me. That thing would be right at home with my hot rod truck. Can't wait to see this one finished!

not only is it KILLER,it's a first in Xmod history.
it's the first Xmod Rat Rod.
my only beef is that the engine is leaning one way and the radiator is leaning the other way.
in all cases though this is THE BEST Xmod around to date!

I can dig up a gasser fuel tank if you want. Look at some gasser and hot rods for the tiny 2-3 gallon fuel tank in front of the grille to see what I'm talking about. Also called a Moon Tank too I believe.

Man that is sweet. You really did a great job pulling it all together. More pics when finished would be nice. Can't get enough of the street rods.

The mounting is so simple its ridiculous. The truck rear end is backwards, that yellow piece in the chassis photos bolts into the bottom two bolts that weren't used and bolts/glued to the chassis.

I am using all micro-t electronics. I doubt the battery would last 10 minutes, but that just adds to the scale realism.

I've technically never had a fully functional Gen1...it was a learning process putting these pieces together. You could make it with an evo, you would just need to make a custom chassis.

Yeah, I decided for a drag car the suspension isn't worth it, plus the headers and wheels are a close call....don't want to have to reglue them everytime the front end is lifted and lays down. The steering is perfect. Really too good for what it is.

The engine and radiator are fixed. I've also added all around windows last night, just didn't have time to get a shot and get the pics up today. I've got most of the stuff together for 2.0 if you want to collab?

Oh yeah, I've got that down. I've got one large and two little cells. I don't know if I want to mount it on the front, or the back...or do the two little ones on the side by the doors.

Front is more traditional, don't see the drag tanks in the rear or sides too often, if at all.

You can see this custom one here. Has a iron spike from some garden decor.

I bought a ratrod magazine for research, there were a couple done on the rear in it...the sides I haven't seen but looked cool in mock up.

That one...is ridiculous...I love it.

Look up "Billetproof" on Jalopnik.com for more info on it. You see the velocity stacks on the carbs? Those were brass pots, with the bottoms cut out for the carb. Also the home pluming pipes for the cooling system.

All sorts of cool stuff in that hell machine.

Hmm, something I might think about after the move and once I complete the list of ongoing projects that I already have.

Evo's chassis is way too chunky to make this work right. Think I've seen osmeone try with an evo chassis, but it just doesn't look right.

But, I personally hate the evo car chassis for modding. The truck chassis is sweet to pick at.

how are you going to go forwards with the motor cradle facing backwards? perhaps something in the wiring? maybe just drive it with backwards controls.
