Default Double-wishbone pro 2wd truck

well, i've been working on this idea for quite some time and i've finally finished the first corner of my suspension arm system
the initial design:

how i actually made it:

i probably will want to change the pivot points to solve the camber issue as you can see lots of positive camber (top of tire tilted outwards)

now thats spooky
i started to do this just last night

to cure the camber problem you have the top and bottom arms have to be parrallel . hope that helps bud nice work


EDIT
looking at how you have the top arm mounted , it just needs a spacer where the arm screws to the knuckle

yep. that's what i was thinking. if i can just make the top mount taller, then the bottom arm would not be at the farthest outward part of its arc while the top one would, resulting in dynamic camber when the suspension compresses, possibly making the handling better on curves.
super-glue and soldering irons are fun cuz i get to do this crazy stuff.

can you post up a pic of your double arm system?

its not at a pic stage but essentially the same as you have done
except i drilled into the knuckle to mount the top arm on the side of where you have it
if ya get what im saying

a good idea for your set-up would be to add a thread to the top arm , this would let you addjust the camber

because i CAN.
and because it's something that few have tried.
and if i get this to work, i can make smoother replicas and maybe mold these parts so we'd all have a bolt on upgrade for wide double arm suspension

i've also figured out the system for the front (though i'm kinda wanting to return to 4wd...i lost half a dogbone and i need that half for me to go 4wd)
i might possibly have to relocate the coilover mounting point because my coilover spring can't really reach full down-travel

yes
just look at any hobby grade rc car /truck/truggy or buggy they ALL use double wishbones

freedom of movement.
if done right, it will allow more ground clearance and less camber/toe-in/out distortion, better tracking, and be a more solid suspension.

since when have you seen floating knuckle suspension on a baja racer? a pro class off-road race truck?



this is keith steele's Monster energy pro 2wd off road truck. does this have dual arm suspension? yes. Top finisher in almost all its races? yes. fixed floating knuckles anywhere? no.

tomorrow morning, i'm going to have my suspension revised and posted up.
i'm going to also be working on the front suspension parts.

Update to project:
finished other side. it's not symmetrical, but it's close enough

this is with the stock shocks and springs

modified shocks and springs:

look at how wide it is now:


it's probably about 2 cm wider in rear and 1.5 cm wider in front (in front i just flipped the slammed wheels backwards and made the wheel axle stick out more)

it is 2wd currently, and i'm probably going to be looking for 2 new rear arms and 2 sets of stock shock bodies (no springs required)

I think you might want to find a way to support the top of the knuckle better then the one arm. Under heavy torque and cornering I don't think the toe is going to stay true.

yeah, that's mainly because i don't have bearings or shims on this, so the rotating parts won't be as affected by dust and dirt.
you know how bad stock xmod wobble is
i might try to find a better way, but as for now, it's good enough

i'd get another set of rear arms, spacers, and shock bodies and make symmetrical parts (without melting plastic together-super glue is stronger),
then from those, i'd make a ceramic mold
from that mold, i'd pour melted plastic resin in
then i'd drill out the neccesary holes and insert the pivot pins in the resin to complete it.

then it'd be basically a bolt-on.

maybe plaster. if it'll hold up to completely melted plastic without deforming, then i'll use it..
but this "kit" might go the way of my carbon chassis, making it take a lot of time before it is completed and released
