QUick Question...
Several yeas ago I swapped my stock Gen1 Motor for a Spinbush motor. While doing so I removed a small, disc-shaped module from the motor can which looked like a capacitor. Being young I figured "who cares, it'll be faster".
I am rewiring my Gen1, and putting in a new Spinbrush motor (burnt the brushes on the last one years ago). I have a cylinder style cap on it currently, do I need to buy another disc-shapped .4 or .1 cap in order for this motor to run? Why did the brushes burn last time? Could it have been due to the additional battery pack I wired in? I am confused and dont want to make the same mistake I did four years ago.

The cylinder capacitor you have on will do the same job as the pancaked shape ones.
How many cells were you running? Any additional voltage will of course shorten a motor's life. But, brushes are cheap and a plenty to replace.

I was running 6 AAA, but I am still a virgin to the wiring schematic, so I may have run the additional pair in series or parallel. Not sure, it was years ago.
Update: I found a diagram at http://support.radioshack.com/doc/600/rec600-xmods.pdf , so rewiring should be breeze.

6 in series is the proper way and the boards and motors typically take it pretty well.

alk.
No longer running 6. Back to 4, rewiring it with 18G wires, hardwiring the motor, and using a Spin Brush motor.
