Default is this a R/C or not?

so basicaly me and kaze got into a arguement, i told him that lipo+brushless was faster then and nitro, and are cheaper to run.

he says this is a r/c car, but i greatly dissagree, i think its a control line car instead of a airplane. not to mention control lines have no speed control
YouTube Video

but here's the vid of the brushless+lipo car i found, it has steering and speed control. top speed 161.76

First Video: Radio controlled to the tune that it has adjustable steering and adjustable throttle? No, I would say not. I would however say it is a rocket propelled vehicle which is remotely started. You get the initial circle started with the line and then the rocket engages via remote and the line then becomes just a guide. That's just a guess, though.

Second Video: Not what I would call "typical-RC," either. Yeah, it's steerable, but it's aided by a gyroscope which self-corrects (much like that in an RC Heli). Nic Case is one heck of a builder and driver. I hope he reaches his wanted 200MPH.

Cheers,
Kyle

not typical, but still a full functioning rc car, and just to state a point, you can put a gyro on a MR-03 but its still a rc car.

Right, but when I think "typical," you are getting a servo, maybe a servo horn and a few turnbuckles. No fancy-schmancy gyroscope.

the gyro just tells the servo what to do, lol there is still a servo, the driver can still control the direction of the car, but the gyro just corrects it.

with the car in the first vid, if you cut the cable, its useless

with the car in the second vid, if you take the gyro off its still a fully functioning rc

honestly i fully believe its exactly like a control line air plane, put in gas, start it, grab the end of the line. but in this case it seems the took a nitro engine and put it in a very high gear (hence the slow acceloration) started it, got it moving, then let it go

Crappy quality video and a shot-in-the-dark guess.

Watching it for a third or fourth time and man that annoying sound it is making gets to ya..

yea, its a control line car, my dad used to run them. you just get it going by spinning it manually around the track by the line. then like those old mopeds, they fire up when they get wound up. Or thats how his worked anyway

guys saying this is an r/c is like saying ice sleding is r/c
it makes no sense, if it needs a push start, then its not considered RADIO controled is it.. now, let him
a) do it without the string
b) without turning in a circle
THEN it will be considered the world's fastest r/c

turning in a circle means that you are pretty much "drafting" yourself, which would be considered cheat, if it was a bigger circle, there would need to be more power to reach those speeds

The first one is a nitro engine, which looks like it could be actually controlled. I would think the guide wire would be their to help maintain it going it a circle. I would think the throttle would be the radio controlled part of that vehicle.

The second video is an R/C car.

You got to remember that technically Radio controlled means anything that can be operated via a radio transmitter. So really that first car could have just radio controlled brakes.

The only way to really know is to go to an event like that or research more about it I guess.

Just throwing in my .02

theres not radio control, litterly its like a control line air plane, theres no throttle lol... theres no brakes, you litterly fill it up with gas and sent it off and i goes until it runs out of gas

Isn't that second one the one that crashed and shattered?

Also, I voted yes because by definition, if a radio wave has an effect on the vehicle, it's radio controlled. So unless it isn't remote started...

its not remotely started, infact the idea of even putting any type of eclectronics on it would have a negative effect because its not worth the weight gain.

litterly here's how a control line works
1. start motor with starter box (i know for a fact they arnt RC)
2. set on ground and have someone give it a push so the motor can get holp moving the car with that crazy gear ratio
3. watch and wait for it to run out of gas...

I guess that makes more sense. I didn't really pay much attention to the video.
