I want my Slash to light up the night.

So, this is what I have been looking at.

To ultimately achieve this, which I can also buy this particular body:



I have no idea on how to build light kits.. I know I probably could do it myself but I doubt any places in this town have the stuff to get to make one.

If you would like to check out the items further to give me ideas or whatever, here you go:

Or are there other better alternatives? I'm a light freak and when I get lights.. I like them to be as bright as I can possibly get.

On second thoughts.. the light bar is a bad idea. I roll mine over a lot.

So the headlight kit would be good wouldn't it?

you can still do the roll bar lights, you would just need to make the roll bar a little taller and mount the lights underneath the roll bar. either way its going to look sweet man.

Ok, I've figured it out I think.. the front bumper has 5 large holes in it, and two small holes below those.

Here's what I found:



Put this kit in 4 holes on the front bumper.



And this kit for the head/tail lights.

Will probably order these here in just a few mins..

Edit: It should be just fine to run these off of my spare 8.4v Ni-Cad shouldn't it? I could probably wire them all in to run off of the one battery. Problem is, where would I put an extra 7 cells of battery in there.. anyone have any other ideas for alternative power other than having to have two separate 9v batteries?

The two kits have connectors to run them to a 9v battery.. easily changed I'm sure.

And btw, I just ordered them.

From reading the eBay description I gather that they run off of a 9V battery (the lead is included but the battery is not). All you'll need to do is mount it and purchase a 9V battery. A 9V is smaller, cheaper and easier to install that a huge 6/7 cell NiCD pack.

Yeah, but I figure if I'm going to take the time to make them both run off of a single 9v, I might as well get a battery that will be a little bigger and last longer.. and is re-chargeable. No sense in wasting money on batteries that you can't re-charge. I do have a spot to put that extra 7 cells, but it would all be on one side and greatly affect weight distribution..

Rechargable Energizer 9V battery.

Rechargable 9V Battery Charger.

LEDs pull a very small amount and take very little power to run. I've been using the same AAA batteries to run my 8 LED flashlight for over a year (since Christmas of 2007). I'm fairly certain you would have no problems running these LEDs off of a 9V battery. Plus, if you purchase a rechargable battery, you'll save money and be able to charge it every second or third time you recharge the SubC 7.2V NiMH for the Slash itself.

Just food for thought.

LEDs, even that amount, will last a long time on even the cheapest of 9v.

why waste space with a 9v?
you can get the same setup with 5mm diodes,a switch and watch cells.
my huntley police truck runs 5x 3mm and 3x 5mm diodes from 3 watch cells and a switch.
i built it almost a year ago and i hav'nt swapped batts yet.
another plus to wiring your own is that you wont have the bulky housings,leads and built in resistors...not to mention that 3 watch cells weigh about 1/8 of a 9v.
if you wire your own then you have the ability to mount them where you want them without the housings limiting your posistioning and you will be able to add the resistors ANYWHERE you want.
the only thing left to worry about is switch placement.

Bondo, that's also the difference between knowing how to build your own pack and like me, not having as much experience.

It will definitely be made better in time.. I plan to build my own eventually. But for now I plan to run these.

Hopefully they will be here soon, was hoping today but nope.. hopefully before Saturday. Saturday I plan to run with my buddy who has a Summit, and an Axial AX-10. This should be fun.

My Slash now lights up the night. Too bad the pack with just 4 white LED's was shorted out.. so I get to wait on a replacement. But here's the head and tail lights for now.


Oh yes. This is pretty.







I cannot wait to get the other ones in and mounted. This thing already puts off a lot of light.. with 4 more I should accomplish my goal.

Do they serve their purpose and help you drive at night or are they more for show? They look like they give off a lot of light, but is it enough light to drive with?

Well, I haven't had much of a chance to test it outside yet. But, here's a couple comparison pics.

Now, it's really hard to get good night shots with the camera on auto mode.. But, this is the best I could do for now without going through all the manual settings.


No lights, obviously..



It lights things up pretty well. The cabinets were probably a good 3-4 feet away. I think once I get the other four in it will make a huge difference.

Edit: I just took it out for a night spin.. and yeah, it was great. In the real dark spots I could get a half way idea of what was in the area.. and for general cruising around I had no problems seeing my truck and figuring out where it was going. I don't know if I could get a decent video of them, but they put off a ton of light even from a distance. It's great.
