Telescopes
I recently acquired a telescope from a friend, upon pointing it at the sky the reality of the fact that it's a b1g *** world came to realization. I have seen pics of the moon but until it has been seen with your own eyes, it's really not that spectacular. Looking up and out, i found this weeks hobby. (ask the staff, I have issues). Anyone else using a telescope to view the terrestrials? I want to upgrade (of course) and wondered what people here are using and how you like/dislike any particular piece of equipment.

for the past seven or eight months i've been pretty interested in the sky, ive looked at the moon with a weak telescope and my binoculars everry time its been full since then. I plan on getting a real telescope, right now i don't really have the space, but if i can find a cheap decent one i might forget about the space issue, if anyones got suggestions i'd appriciate it |

hey bart my wife and I are always gazing at the sky in amazement...have a small telescope of our own...a cheapo...and we realize that we may need to upgrade as well, without breaking the bank that is...any observatories in your area?...we have 1 down south, Sunriver Observatory...and 1 out west, Pine Mt Observatory...maybe they are googleable...big telescopes...truly breathetaking...the moon was so close you could see in the craters, saw saturn and its rings, small but still visible and way bright...saw Mars but was very dim...and they had their big boy pointed into the irion nebula in orion's belt...unbelievable...it was hard not to be a 'scope hog and zone out on it all night....what was also cool at this place was there is a slide show late night with all these sick aurora borealis pics for about an hour...sooo beautiful...anyways good luck with yet another fun new hobby...we should trade off some floyd music ...oh well...one of these days

I have an older Jason telescope, was given to me and after doing some research I found out that it is quite nice and valuable, the weather has sucked since I got it though. I am looking at a go-to telescope now, where you type in what you want to see and it finds and tracks it for you.
@jimmy, not to sure, but is is just lenses and mirrors, how hard could it be? (which is the general statement made before something is destroyed) |

I have a Meade Polaris telescope up at our cottage to stare at the neighb... I mean sky. I have had it for about eight years now and there isn't a spec of dust on any of the mirrors at all. A very well built and inexpensive telescope. It's fully motorized for my lazy arse and focuses very well on just about any thing. I don't remember the specific model number, but I can certainly get that information for you this weekend if you would like. Just let me know.
Cheers, Kyle.
