Sorry I don't read, I just want everything in a nutshell. Relooking over sketch, everything seems fine now.

Yes, it resembles a crawler setup very much so.

In a car form though, like Trans Am Lover said, the weight would be a lot more on the side of the car which had the batteries. You could possibly even this out by just adding weights to the side with the motor...

Now if only they made a solid axle xmod Crawler.... With the motor and battery setup in the center, at a reasonable price. I would buy that. I know it's been done, but probably not at a price of $50..

edit: here's a sketchof my chassis idea:

there'd be a center diff(truck diff modified to work with a pulley)
and 2 awd front-diffs. 18 of the big sized bearings and it would use front knuckles all around for the possibility of changing both front and rear toe angles. the center drive gears would just be shortened normal awd center gears on axle stubs that have the threads chopped off

what'd you think? too much work? too complex? or something other than that?
i think a center diff would be interesting cuz then you'd have a more precise awd more along the lines of the sti's and evo's and rs4's and stuff
I like it. A belt would not be my way to do it, too much risk of slippage under high load, but none too bad. Why is there a drive shaft with flex joints? Basically why is the pinion offset?

Also to those mentioning weight, if i remember right liths don't weigh that much, so by putting the motor and servo on one side you aught to be able to balance it out

Default crawler motor

ok so iv had my geared motor for a couple of days now and have been trying out different set-ups all using the gear motor as a base

V1
motor sat on top of dummy can using custom gears
PRO'S good torque
CONS availability of gears

V2
motor mounted inside dummy can
PRO'S ascetically nicer and non intrusive of body
CONS custom shaft adapter needed

V3
(what i was working toward) motor sat on top using all xmod parts
PRO'S all parts used are from xmods so we all can make them
CONS the gearing inside the dummy can is 1-1 no reduction is gained

and here she is V3

as said all the parts apart from the geared motor are from my xmod spares
i will get a tut together and posted if you guys want ?

maybe i could flip the motor towards the back and move the batteries forward then put the main gear in the back?
it's mainly because the batteries take up so much space.

maybe you could add a 3rd gear into that motor so you wouldnt have to use such a big pinion and then maybe we could get a reduction, i am sure some epoxy could make that job really easy.

te thing is, the pinion gear has to be tiny and the center drive gear has to be big. an extra gear will only complicate things more

If the gear ratio is 1:1, what's the point? V1 was on the right track, like DIYxmods. Now with V3, if you replaced the minimotor with one of those that have a planatery gear box, it'd make more sense..

in the first part of his post he says he has a geared motor and it is used on all the versions.

I just reread that and realized I screwed up on that right as you posted. When I read it as the gear ratio] was 1:1 I was thinking of the unit as a whole.

My bad

ha ha no wories texan

i do agree V1 is the better option i got an extra 1.86-1 reduction but members finding the gears may be a problem , so that is the reason for V3 all parts are from xmods so members stand a better chance of building the motor and not have to pay someone else to

Hey. I was reading how you were talkibout gear ratios.and I was thinking. What about a huge gear ratio? Like oversized gears? Or has that been done too? Like get rid of the casing around the gears to size up or sumpin?

it has been done both for crawling (servo) and high speed (XI supercharger)

the point behind these motors we are making is that you dont have to hack up your xmod , they are a direct fit and can be swaped back to a normal motor at any time

its possible to get a 65t spur gear and an 8t pinion lol but that would still be only like an 8:1 ratio, so oversize gears is easy to do but hard to get a good ratio unless you keep em stacking. A reduction box with a smaller motor is propably your best bet
