If the tape was touching the motor and the motor was so hot that could be the smell....do you have an metal heatsink? I know if you get hung up on something and set there trying to go....with locked diffs things get hot pretty fast.

My poor nikko hummer died on me in a puff of smoke when the motor got hot....or maybe it short circuited....hmm....

Maybe you soldered something wrong? That could be likely.

idk not that hard to solder two wires together. i think i need so much power to turn my big wheels that i am trying to get so much torque that my motor is having to work really hard thus, a lot of power

Your overworking your motor. If your running a stage two outdoors on assorted terains, it really puts strain on the motor. It could be your gearing, or it could be that you have a heavy throttle finger...

double check all your connections and then if nothing make sure your motor heat sink is not tight make it a little loose

Check your solder quality. The solder may be going back into that wierd state if it gets too hot. Those tires look big, and with the terrain, it may just be the motor. RS motors can only handle so much. I had a puff of smoke come out of a motor once, and a wierd smell, turns out i burned the brushes, then I burned myself. I got the neighbors ****ed with all the curses,

ok thank guys so wat now? should i get a stronger motor, or stacked fets? or both? and tires that are a little lighter would help cause i dont think my truck should take a long time to get up to speed.

Seeing it is a crawler go for a servo motor. They handle huge loads and dont need stacked FETs. I reccomend an HS-55 servo motor.

+++You can keep the monster tires lol

no, don't get the hs-55 servo, it'll burn after a little while.
I'd recomand you the tamiya universal gearbox or the hs-81 servo instead.
