Hillbilly Brush-Hog
Well this a project i thought i would decide to try out & see how it would work. What im wanting to do is make a weedeater, out of four xmod motors, but im running into the issue of what im going to use to power it & wire it up, i thought about using a 9 volt battery but im not sure so your guys opinions would be appreciated, i will be using an on/off switch on it too so all the motors are conected straight to the power-source & not the xmod itself. Also i still need some weedeater wire, so i can test it out. So basicly it will get pulled behind a truck & cut the grass about 15 inchs across. Also all of the motors are Stage One. I also need a diagram on how to wire the motors up, so they all work with one power source.
So here are some pics of what i have so far, (this is just a prototype). Here are some pics so you can see how wide it actually is. Comments, questions & Tips, are Welcome. |

I think 9 volts will spin them way too fast unless you hook the motors up in series. I would use twin lines on each trimmer to keep vibration under control and experiment with the wiring. All 4 in parallel will be way to fast, but 2 in parallel and 2 in series would give you half the speed and all 4 in series would give you 1/4 the speed. I would start with all 4 in series and see what results you get.

id stay away from a 9v battery
they tend to be around 250mah and spinning 4 motors will kill it fast how id do it if it was mine is 4 AA cells (around 2500mah) and wire all 4 motors in parallel

When you say parallel, do you mean like the red wire from the first motor to the red wire onn the second motor, then so on for all four? & would it be the same for the blacks?

Yes thats what he means, and I like his battery choice better than a 9v. Those motors will spin pretty fast like that though, maybe too fast.

Update:I finished wiring it up parallel & it runs great off of two 9 volt battery's, now i just need some Weed-Eater Wire & a good powerful power source. Then when thats all done i need to clean up the wire's & hide them underneath the arms holding the motors & start adding details to make it look, more like a brush hog/weed-eater. (Any ideas for it will be considered).
Got me a handy-dandy On/Off Switch. |

i wouldnt use weed eater wire, maybe some small and sharp airplaine props.
also, glue those legos together, they tend to pop off with vibrations

sorry if im being stupid but iv been staring at your wired up version and just carnt figure why you have 3 wires to each motor ??
all you need to wire them in parrallel is take one wire from each motor to a switch then to the possitive side of the battery then you should be left with one wire on each motor not connected , twist theses 4 together and put them an the negative side of the battery

Well i rewired it this morning & i replaced the Evolution motor with another Gen. 1 Motor, so now they are all the same motors & i tested it again & they run even stronger & better than before. I will post pics later. Update: Here are the pics as i promised, they are wired up right & i just have to clean them up better, so i can hide them underneath it & i need to twist them together still.

that looks much better. I actually had the idea to try this along time ago with a gen1 motor, some trimming line, and a 9v. Kinda cool how you got the idea and actually made something even cooler. Just a suggestion/question. Are you going to make it side discharge or a mulcher. I'll bet you could find some cool mini chains or pieces of rubber if you were going with the mulcher idea, little things like that make it that much more scale and trick looking. In any case, awesome dude, can't wait to see it done...Just don't mow up any innocent bystanders.
