We have been talking about this alot lately, You can't just switch out the board. Please go to this recent thread (particularly post #18) and read the WHOLE thread.

ok well that didnt help me much. i read he entire thread and i am still were i was before. i am using stock electronics. i do not currently have the mony to go full hobby grade like in that thread. i have seen it done before, i just can't find it. my servo has 3 pot wires and three wires which would normally go into the reciever of a 1/16 cheap japaneze nitro buggy. i got a new servo for that and so here i have this old one. can anyone point me in the direction of a tutorial or something?

You actually could use the board of a larger servo as an ESC. I don't know how much better than stock this board would be, but it would allow you to use hobby class remote.

Simply remove the larger servo's board, plug the three wires into the rx, and then plug in another servo, then solder the xmods motor wires onto the pads where the servo motor wires led to.

http://www.airdyn.com/articles/ESC.htm

Explains it all ^^

Later,
RedSXmodder

EDIT: Nevermind thats not what your asking, lol. You can't use a hobby grade board because its integrated into the xmods main PCB...

you have to get rid of the servo board inside the servo and connect the wires directly rather than through a servo board to use the servo on an xmod.

guys, i apriciate all your help, but everything you explained are not what i wanted. i do not want to use the servo case and/or gears. only, the electrics. i saw it done somewhere and they said it improved the feel of the stering. the only problem i heard from it was that it put more voltage through the servo motor so it was a bit more jittery. I was just going to put a resister in to reduce jjittering. it would help with the voltage spikes.
also, i do not want to turn a servo into an esc right now. (but that is really cool! )

You cant always have what you want. I cant explain it, but I know what your talking about.

You want to use just electronics, like just the servo board for your stock xmod servo. Like swtch out servo boards, I dont see how it would be done, because the wires are not even close to be the same, so you would have to know what can go where, and so on.

you could always put in a Mini-Z board and ditch the Xmod board..

haha, ya i could, but i already mentioned that i don't have money, and i would much rather spend my money on hobby grade electrics instead of somthing that costs the same as em', and aren't as smooth, powerful, reliable, or all of the above.

wow. your standard of hobby grade is really low. no it is not hobby grade. do you see a standard esc? no. reciever? no. even servo? not really. it is all in one board. not real hobby grade stuff. i know hobby grade. i race 1/10th scale.

also, what happened to my origional question? i have no desire to do anything, but wire up a servo board!

technically yes, a mini-z is hobby grade.
most rcs that are this small cannot fit cased modular electronics so they put the electronics all on onc pcb.
but mini-zs are hobby grade because they have high resolution steering and throttle.
xmods are not hobby grade because they have poor throttle and steering resolution.

the hobby grade of 1:10th and 1:28 is totally different.

i race hobby grade 1:10 as well and i can tell you that the mini-z is every bit as hobby grade as a 1:10 tourer.

definition of hobby grade:
replacement parts, upgrades, and additional accessories are readily available for many years after the initial manufacturer of a hobby-grade RC model. In most cases, hobby-grade RCs have better handling, are faster and more durable, have more radio and radio frequency options

if mini-zs were not hobby grade, i doubt that a KO propo would work on them and i doubt that people would make 2.4ghz ASF kits.

well i guess that is true with the 2.4ghz. well, i guess it is not something i would consider to be true hobby equipment, but enough about the mini z. my question was about an xmod with steering servo.

well you asked if you could get hobby grade electronics for steering.. get a mini-Z board is your answer... if you want a nice steering servo go for an HS-55 servo..

Sorry, but that is not what i asked. i asked if i could wire a servo board into a stock xmod pcb, not miniz. i thought i made that fairly clear. i have no desire to go with mini z

The answer is no you cannot. The servo board that xmods use is integrated into the ESC, so unless you have mad hacking skillz than its a negatory...

OKAY stop...... Mini-Z is hoby grade for 1/28 scale. THIS IS NOT 1/10. you can not make a car light enough with all that stuff in it at this scale. You are getting very frustrating and this thread. I don't think you even know whats going on or what anyone is telling you. sssssssssss

"thats not what I asked" blah blah blah ... I think everyone is done with this.

ok, guys i am sorry i got frustrated with you guys, but i just hate it when people tell you to make an 80 dollar investment when you start out with a simple question. thank you redsxmodder. you where the first person to give me that information i was searching for, instead of telling me about a miniz board that i never wanted in the first place. guys, come on. it just gets tireing when people never shut up about one thing that is useless information. sorry if it sounded like i was being really crabby. 5 out of 11 replies from you guys was about the miniz electrics. I am sorry if you guys don't understand that some of us do not have all that cash, especially when you are saving up for a team associated rc10l
