TerXmod EVO
Finally finished the large part of this car--the body. By all means it isn't perfect, but it is my first. The windows accidentally got glued to the body while they were just taped in and wasn't gonna come out without some hacking or possibly breaking so they stayed for the spraying. Gonna spray them eventually when the orange cures a little better so not to pull the paint when I mask them things off.
So what all does it consist of?!!! I bought the 1:28 scale body off an ebay seller. Really rare piece as the Japan company that originally made this kit back in 1979 is no longer in business. Custom Mini-z TaGu Osian rims(wide) from Wild-Z racing wrapped with some 10* Atomic "V" pattern 12mm wide tires. Custom HEMI wound 27T arm in PNR can built, broken-in and tested by Eric @ Main-iac-motors.(this motor runs way cooler than my old Chili) 9:25 gear ratio Losi Mini-t receiver/transmitter and servo. 2S(7.4V) Lipo battery Custom Carbon Fiber extended chassis(DIY) Custom Length Carbon Fiber AWD shaft. Originally had a grip of aluminum parts that I wasn't too thrilled with so I sold all but the dogbones, heat sink motor strap, and tie-rod. Also had the GPM AWD kit and one of the AWD shaft gears broke after literally driving 3 feet. lol. The differentials were too tight and never really loosened up like they should've. I then bought front/rear Atomic diffs and wasn't too pleased with those either so back to the stock ones and they keep the car going much straighter. Here's some pics. This kit was originally Nissan GT-R EVO kit. Nearly $500 went into this little thing and I think I'm about done with it as I've since picked up an HPI Cup Racer(currently assembling). Very nice setup!
I would advise wrapping your Micro-T ESC/Receiver kit in some sort of insulator since carbon fiber can conduct electricity. Not the greatest probability that something will short out, but there is always the chance and better safe than sorry, right? Oh, and welcome to the forum! Cheers, Kyle.

Wow, didn't realize the nature of CF in regards to conductivity. I'll be looking to correct my current setup and keep that in mind for future projects.

Yeah, I made it the CF chassis. I originally made a aluminum one and that was cool, but who doesn't love the CF look and weight reduction benefit?!!!lol
I apparently missed the deadline for that February Contest. I did try to make it, I resprayed the windows, but it got hazy/foggy looking finish. I think one coat of clear would set it straight and I'll still do that at least. Oh and yeah its a 1979 Toyota Tercel Sport. Been a while as I've not done much with this piece since detialing the body. I've recently got my Cup Racer and Mini-T on 2.4Ghz radio so I figured why not get this Xmod on 2.4 as well. Also figured while I was at it I'd do a brushless conversion. Fortunately, a good friend hooked me up with a nice deal on the BL system. So here is what I got so far, just waiting on the HS-55 servo to come in.
I needa come up with something for the difference in shaft diameter between these Micro Xcelorin BL motor(1.5mm shaft diameter) and 130 cans(2mm). Tryna figure out if the pinion gear's pitch between Xmod and these Micro-T motors are the same--as I haven't one to compare to my xmod's pinion. Anyone know about the pitch or pinion with 1.5mm bore that would work an Xmod? Or my other option is to slip something over the BL motor shaft to get it to fill/match the bore of the Xmod pinion gears. Not sure if there is a project thread on here where someone has done this particular BL setup on an EVO, but if anyone has some link(s) or name of a thread/build/car/username that I can try searching for, that be greatly appreciated. |

Finally got the servo in. Also went and got a replacement motor/ESC as the first was screwy. However, the 2nd, if its physically in good shape, proved that the mini-t BL system just ain't got the "juice" to power an Xmod.
I did a quick mount of everything to test it and it would stutter most the time before it actually picked up and went. And when it did go, it never went like my last brushled motor/Mini-t electronics setup. Here's what it looked like before I pulled the motor out. Gonna try another slightly larger brushless motor. |
