Default Project: A Decent Crawler

I finally get a chance to go to a hobby store and buy a HS-55 servo instead of buying it online. So, I transformed (ish) this:

Into this:

It's got:
Articulation Mod
SS Body Lift
HS-55 Servo

I plan to get:
GPM/Alloy Dogbones
GPM/Alloy Differential, Front and Back
6 Cell Mod
Bigger Tires

And once again, I ask another question. Is this just me, or does my servo go exceptionally slow?

YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

It seems everybody else's servo goes much faster. Keep in mind that I went around 6 inches (or 13 cm) in 16 seconds.

theres Nothing wrong with the servo speed IMO If you want a tad bit faster, get a bigger spur gear.

Overall great start!

Thanks for reminding me. Not much of a crawler without the wheels.

Yeah, the gears keep slipping. I don't know how to fix that. Also, the gears inside keep slipping so I put in spacers. I think that kind of slowed the servo down.

it looks to me like your pinion might be bent a bit or you glued the pinion(spur) gear crooked.
watch the video, every revolution it jumps up and away from the spur gear.

as for the speed, i wouldnt worry one bit about it.
after all, it's a crowler.
bigger tires will give you a little bit more travel per revolution but the speed looks normal to me.

but crawling isn't about speed it about getting up them rocks, you might want to try adjusting the spur on the servo.
or you can drill a hole in the spur so that the main gear on the servo (that litle tab that sticks out) so the spur gear will slide onto the servo gear, kinda like how the servo horn works.

Yeah, I kinda did put it on crooked...

I did find a few 4x4 Tamiya kits in Hobby Town USA, does anyone know how big their tires are?

Edit: I went to look at the servo and it seems that the last gear of the servo (the one that stick out to the outside) is moving up and down. Does anyone know why?

Edit again: I tried fixing it, but now the gears are not meshing. The servo dosen't move and won't let me go over things an inch in height. Do I have a retared servo or is it my fault? The last gear seems to keep moving up and down freely too.

HELP! Now the servo dosen't move at all! I have a feeling there is a broken connection but I don't know where.

IT looks good man, It looks nice. I don't know what to tell you about the servo but make sure the gears are in the correct order and good luck. Bigger tires will help too. Any special plans?

Update:

I crafted some tires out of a toy I got a the dollar store. I ripped it apart some time ago.

I put two rims in the back wheels to allow for more articulation. The fronts only have 1.

Nice! I don't think I have ever seen your XMOD(s) before! Those tires look like brushes. Try to get some crawling or mudding videos please?

Um, for now with the S2 motor, like crap. It won't go backwards while sitting on my kitchen floor. I might get another servo, but not anytime soon. I've spent almost all of my money...

This isn't a crawling or mudding video, but I guess it's close enough.

YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

What is love?

It's just running around the backyard. I need a servo bad otherwise I'm stuck with the seemingly torqueless S2 motor kit...

Anyway about your servo, have you tried to swap the motor for a another motor? Like the one in your gen1 servo or a zipzap one?

Nice video. Yeah, you really need a Servo! That thing would be suckish in mud with that motor.
