Could just be something binding but it sounds a little more terminal than that, if I had to guess I would you have a loose servo wire so to much power is being sent to the POT and locks the wheels as described.

Is it relatively new? Can you return it? If not your going to have to take a look at the board and see if you can spot the problem.

its sounds like there is an issue with the potentiometer wires. there should be three going from the side of the servo gearcase to the board. white, black, and orange, check to see if there is a bad solder joint. i have purchased many return units from rs and this was the only problem with them.

In all honesty I would go walmart and get a 10 soldering iron and do it yourself..... once you pay to ship it to some and pay to get it back your costs will be the same.....

Fair enough.... I'm sure zippo can hook you up and if for some reason he can't let me know and I'll do it!

FET's and more specifically more (stacked ) FETs let you run hotter motors, i.e. motors that pull more current and would fry a stock board. Personally I can't stack them but lots of people can.....

Go for a 25 Watt soldering iron if you get one. They don't easily burn tips, and it is perfect if you wanna advance into FETs and such.
