Sounds like you are having fun. It's always fun to resurrect old equipment and see just what can be done with it. It's also crazy to see how a lot of the reason we NEED such powerful computers is because the operating system is made to require it.

Isn't that what you just did acer??? LOL. j/k Well as a PC repair guy I basically think that as long as your PC does everything you NEED it to do and you are HAPPY with the speed, there is absolutely no need to upgrade. Same goes for the OS.

since u guys effectively revived my thread i should tell you i wiped windows off that pc and started using ubuntu, but after a while i managed to snag a dell gx260 whilst detailing vehicles. it does some of what i want but im still needing more...

ubuntu of any form is good but it has limited capablitly with certain things because of everything being kinda made for mac/windows

Yea i skipped win 98 too i went from 95 straight through to XP, but to be fair i was young.

Nowadays i usually will use my laptop which has win7 on it. But I have my Mac Pro at home in my room and i also have a spare laptop running Linux on it. I need them all for school.

Win7 runs my Cad and autocad, as well as sketch up and so on. Mac for photo and video rendering and editing. Linux of course is so i can hack everything and i usually will have it hooked up to my TV for some free movie watching.
