lithium for evo....?
ok, ive searched and read and read and searched about lithium ion and polys.....
whats the easiest most straight forward upgrade for the evo/street cars? can i just buy a lithium "kit"....im no good with electronics/soldering yet...thanx guys... |

x2. honestly you can do it with out soldering at all. even though you really shouldnt... but you can if u must. its very straight forward. and requires no other upgrades to the car.
and those batterys alone will give you a bigger performance increase than all the other modifications combined running on standard batterys. |

You don't need to change any FETs to use Lithium right?
From what I can tell the mAh on Lithiums is lower though, do they not last as long? |

that is what i thought that liths need fet upgrades they last kinda long but i wouldnt risk it cause they can get real hot i think.

they have a longer runtime since they have more power in them...kinda logical.
but i wouldn't go lithium withouth a fet upgrade. the stock ones get really friggen hot

my gymkana car doesnt get hot at all with liths, and its running a stock board.

fet upgrade isn't required but is a plus. a lot of things factor into the fets getting warm with liths. run time, motor, gearing, bushings or bearings, driving style, battery discharge rate, etc.

So then for the most part, Lithiums = stacked FETs?
I don't see how Lithium gives longer run time, the mAh is lower. http://www.atomicmods.com/Products/X...ck__10114.aspx The mAh of each cell is 780, my NiMH are 800 per cell and there's 4 NiMHs Last edited by S2k Racer; 12-31-2008 at 03:39 PM.. |

lithium batteries are lighter weight so that's 1factor. and even at the nimh being 800 mah per cell, they are wired in series, 4s. lithium are 2s, 2 in series. you can run 4 in a 2s2p setup. 2 series 2 parallel. when batteries are all in series they maintain a single mah rating. 4 800 mah ran in series is still 800 mah. you can run 4 liths 2s2p and since you have a set in parallel you double the mah rating. 4 liths 2s2p at 750mah a cell = 1500 mah.
and since you have more volts you won't have to be as high of throttle to get the same performance, therefore causing less draw from the battery.

Interesting, but using Lithium would need a FET stack?
|

no, lithium does NOT require a fet stack.

you would need to get low resistance FETs... right? and is there a tut for lith-ion installing here?

guys... come on now. has any one read this thread at all?
several times it states: YOU CAN RUN LITHIUMS ON A STOCK BOARD. you do not need ANY modifications to run lithiums!! there is a tutorial on atomicmods for installing them. its straight forward and very simple. |

I understand that you can run lithium on a stock board, I'm wondering what people think of doing so, SPR seems to think it works just fine, where as XMDrifter seems to think "the stock ones get really friggen hot"

like i posted, driving conditions and other factors can heat them up. i run them both ways, with and without fet upgrades. the ones that have fet upgrades i have other things like hotter motors, taller gearing etc.

what about a stage 2 motor how would the stock FETs handle that with Lithium?
|

|

|

should be fine, as long as your not running extremely high gearing.

Including I'd probably get Lithium for my Gen 1, I'm using the Red motor.
