Default Traxxas slash gear help

Well I was driving my truck and it starts clicking and then won't go and i can just hear the motor turning but no movement. So i took it inside and the spur gear for the transmission is stripped. But my question was if the stock gear is a plastic 86 tooth gear. Will i be able to use a gear for the truck that has 91 or 92 teeth? Here is what the stock gear looks like:

As long as your motor can swing out of the way to allow for the larger gear but it will affect your performance

It depends. Is your motor running hot with stock, If it is, do not gear up as it will cause it to heat too fast(if im correct). I haven't had anyprobs with gears in my Slash yet but I gotta check the mesh before I run it next

thanks for the help. The only reason i was asking about the bigger tooth gear is because my plastic one that stripped i looked on ebay and found metal gears so i was looking at them. But since i don't want to use 20 dollars to buy a gear that doesn't work as good i will just buy a replacement one when i need it.

To be honest with you that is the best to do just replace with stock one because as long as your mesh is correct they should not strip.Why pay extra for aluminum or steel when you really do not need it.

from what i heard never run metal on metal it just shreads. use a delrin pinion and a metal spur.

Not true. On my friends Nitro Pede, he runs a steel spur and hardened steel clutchbell and he hasn't had probs. I need to switch to that next time it shreads. Also if you plan to run in sand and don't want to strip gears, get an RPM gear cover. It keeps junk out including dirt and rocks to protect your gears and has a removable cover to access the slipper. Here's the link if you wanted to know. With winter approaching, I can take the Slash to the beach without the threat of hitting people. It's the second item. RPM makes good stuff. I'd rather buy their stuff than aluminum.

but he says run alloy pinion on plastic spur.
but i guess you can do it vis versa.

I have a aluminum pinion and spur gear on my brushless mamba mini and as long as the mesh is perfect why would it shread.Unless something moves while driving

you have to be very careful with a metal spur and pinion, one thing could mess and cause a problem, i say look for delrin only, or delrin on aluminum.

if you get metal just make sure you match the pinion to a harder material, just lie in nitro. I put a metal spur on and don't know u need the hardened bell well it tears them up like there plastic, got a hardened bell and havnet had a problem.
As long as you match to 2 you will be fine but once you moss match somthing will strip.

Thanks for all the idea and help but just in case something would go wrong i think i will just buy some replacements for it. This is my first hobby grade r/c truck and I don't want to dump a lot of money into it. But thanks for all the help.

same happened to my nephews new Stampede, the motor screws came loose and stripped out the spur gear. Seems TRX isnt tightening these all that well from the factory. But yes, if the motor swings out far enough (which i believe it should) will definetly work and also greaty effect the performance of the vehicle. Depending on what spur (Smaller/Larger) will give you either more torque or more speed depending.
