Default Hs-55 servo swap into evo?

I searched but didn't find my answer.

I am going to try to put a hs-55 servo in the evo car chassis to replace the old one. I know how to mount it and everything but i need to know the wire setup/diagram? basically where do i solder which wires were? i know the evo has 5 wires, black and white(seperatly) then i think it is white, orange and black.
The hs-55 has yellow orange and black sticking out of it.

Any one know the wire diagram? or where to solder each wire> or the electrical side to installing the servo?

thanks,
fieldfairy2

Well To start off, you gotta take the electronic from the servo out.
Then theres gonna be two wires going from the motor in the servo and 3 from the pot that u'll wire ur self.

When u'll get there, All you have to do is experiment.

hope that help. I'll try to find somewere a picture of the board or a diagram to help you.

EDIT: there we go http://www.scale4x4rc.org/forums/sho...ght=hs-55+xmod
Theres a picture that shows you the board wired in the first post.

if one has x2 wires and the HS-55 has x3 wires...this wont be able to go into the EVO alone, youll need to swap the servo motors i believe if that can be done i dunno?

I'll try to explain this best, c1v1c pretty much stated it all, but you'll have to unscrew the 4 silver screws, and get to the servo board.
You'll need some thin wires to solder from the board to the xmod ep, 2 servo motor wires, and 3 pot wires.
The motor wires are indicated in red and black, and look at the stock servo wiring.
The white wire is +(red on hs55 motor) and black is -(black on hs55).

Solder a jumper wire from the hs55 servo motor to the xmod ep.

Then look at the 3 pot wires.
Solder 3 long wires from the hs55 board(in place of stock pot wire locations) and then you have to test which ones go where.
I know bondo will come and nag at me for this again, but maybe he can explain where each wire goes for the pot.

Thanks guys.

Right now:

the evo: i have the front taken apart and the board cover off. I see black and white wire from the servo motor and a white orange and black from the pot.

the hs-55:
the cover is off. i see the board with the yellow, red, and black the ones that are sticking out, i see the motor with a red and black wire. the pot has a green yellow and red wire. all hooked up to the board

now what. I'll get a pic in a second.

Like I mentioned above......

You have to get longer wires or solder the stock pot wires to the hs55 wires. I haven't wired one before, so I won't say anything more.

XMODification did it..

Ok then. You have done this (different servo tho) on your "a little something" project. You just cut the servo gear case a bit to get the gears to mesh right? and the thats it? when you are done with this you should just have the hs-55 and the board and old servo gears. no old pot left and pot board? i just want to make sure i am doing it right.

Can you make a quick diagram or tutorial in this thread for me? in detail? i sound like a kid asking so many questions but i am kind of clueless. I get the motor wires and cutting stuff. Sorry for all this work.

I am not wiring it to an xmod ep...it's hobby grade.
No, you'd have to cut open the servo case and blue a servo gear(like 1st one) to the actual servo, for proper mesh.

Then pile up some stick tape and put it in place...

Ok. So I would cut out the board a in the servo? and the xmod servo housing? I would solder the evo boards pot wires to the hs-55s pot wires(then find the correct order) and solder the hs-55's motor wires to the black and white on the board: black to black, red to white. Glue a gear to the hs-55 and get it to mesh. Does that sound right? thanks for the help.

Figure out what pot wire goes where...then cut open the servo house.
Glue a gear for mesh, and place the servo down with a pile of tape.

I'll let someone else pitch in now.

I think i got it now. Thanks.

edit: so the board in the hs-55 will be cut out right? only leaving the motor and pot wires. I just noticed the hs-55's motor has a brown wire, any thing special to do with that?

The color of the wire dosent really matter. As long as u solder to the right spot. it'll be alright.
Yes the board in the servo is out.

Don't worry about frying anything either. When I wired my servo up, I switched wires around and tried it out for hours before I figured out the correct combo.

If you smell smoke, or feel something getting warm, immediatly disconnect power!!!!! Just in case. Mine did get a wee bit warm at times.

Thanks so much!!
Some won't believe this, but seriously, how is a micro servo going to fry the fets?
The motor is so much smaller than the stock one, double the gears, comes out to be about equal...the motors probably don't pull over 2 amps.

Thank you.

I have officially started today. I have the old servo removed and the wires stripped, the servo gear case dremmeled to allow the hs-55 to mesh and the bottom of the case for a smaller turning radius. All i have to do is mount the servo and fiqure out the wire combo.

Edit:
I have the motor wires soldered together and i am still trying to fiqure out the wire combo for the others. I have it mounted and everything. I just can't get the servo to center when i try to turn? it may be the wire combo tho. It doesn't turn that far but it is a lot smoother(i need to find a smaller gear, or something. Blt: you got the hs-55 in your evo, any wire combo i should know about?

Yes!!! I got the right combo!!! now i have to get it turn farther. I believe you said that blt. you need it to turn to the maximum. I am going to try one of the main gears for the motor.

edit again:
I haven't got the steering to the maximum yet but i have been tuning it and i say it turns a little better than a gen1 now and a little worse than a stock evo... (in radius) but it is far improved with precision and how much faster it turns. alot smoother too. Now if i can get it to turn even more. Maybe i'll do it to more than one of my cars. I am lovin' it.

No thank you. I got it to work but it didn't turn as far as i wanted to a little ebetter than a gen 1 but worse than an evo. While i was experiementing a wire came off right next to the hs-55's motor. So i am going out later to get another hs-55 ans some styrene. Since it is cheaper an light than aluminum. I am going to try to make a custom chassis for this to work. I'll get a pic or 2..

pics: these pics were taken after the wire broke so everything is dismantled:

about how far it turned
my diagram

I used different wires because they were longer. I had to switch to left hand drive on the controller because i couldn't fiqure out the right wire combo. it doesn't matter tho. I used the stock servo gear in the servo case (in it in these pictures, the one that isn't turning the swivle gear thing that connects to the tie rod) and had it screwed into the servo for meshing. I dremmeled some stuff to get a better mesh. i used double sided tape to keep it in place then some electrical tape to keep it one spot.
