Default The LAZOR lives!

So yesterday I finally got back on the red-headed step child of my car ownership career, the Laser. Bought the Hall Effect Coil, a sensor that tells the ECU what cylinder is firing, and put it in. Quick job, 2 screws for the dizzy cap, pull off the rotor, slide off the old pick up coil, and put the new one one.

Fire it up... and... It stalls! Crap, try again... stall... So, fire it up for a third time, and it idles. Yes... It's idling at 2500 RPM, but, it's idling... And you know what? We drove it.... And it did... not... stall... SUCCESS!

Though the throttle position sensor is bad, and only accelerates hard at below 1/2, and around 3/4 throttle. But, seemingly got it up to 60 mph! It was a slow, but dignified climb to 60.

YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

10 miles of road yesterday. A vacuum leak is probably to blame for the high idle. Going to work on it more tonight... But, lemons is looking plausible... pending build costs.

Couldn't get the TPS sensor off to test. Bolts are crusted in. But made a new camera mount that points a camera straight at the blower and windshield. Badass angle.

Thought about dressing up the Laser like a cop car, sitting on her street with a radar gun and pull her trick of stepping out into traffic to stop her at the sign of going over the limit.

Found a few miles of dirt roads to play on. Investigated in the Chevy a little

Went into desert truck mode.

Gotta tow the laser to get there, but given that the land owner doesn't care much (this is a network of dirt roads that the construction trucks use to get around), is a perfect area to play Rally Driver..

BLahahahaha, today is the day it finally goes off road. There is a jump where we're going, but it's far too steep. So, we'll have to knock it down a few feet so it's not like hitting a wall, but hopefully should get air borne.

This is one incredibly tough little car. Besides a coolant leak from a bad hose, and the fact that at the moment it's high centered in a little ditch, this sucker took all sorts of hell. No visible frame damage, no suspension damage (jumped, bottomed out, off road trails at 50 or so, all sorts of shinanigans), and it even drives straight. Only damage is the front fenders when the nose dug into the ground, and the oil pan clearenced itself, but it's pretty solid.

But, the after story of how the day ended, and how the car ended in a ditch at 1 in the morning, is a truly inexplicable night.

I'll have a full story at some point.

last weekend was good for ditches....
one of the cruz landscaping(we've worked on a few of em) trucks was in a 10' ditch and all you could see when you drove by was the tailgate.

you put your laser in one and i buried my landcruiser sat night in a 6' ditch and managed to wedge it in right up next to a 3' tall concrete culvert.

my windshield is cracked, drivers side running board is bent to hell and i got my some nice road rash down the whole DR side.

anyone else go in a ditch last weekend???

StangRacer- Notice that back tire, see how flexed out the rear axle is! The front tire that fell in the hole was still a foot off the ground, and that's with the frame on the ground...

Bondo- I almost got the CST10 stuck in the same sort of crap the Laser fell in!

This field has a bunch of 1-2 foot deep holes a few feet wide. I was following the tire marks left by the laser to go rope it up, and drove right into one I missed when driving the laser in the field (the idea was to park it behind some trees). Same tire fell in too! Was able to rock it out on the 2nd try and just drove over the tree to the left to avoid the hole... lol. Yanked the car up and out with no problem! Then backed over that same tree again to avoid the hole. Very wide truck..

Found a place to park the laser, it will either
A) Be sold to Lemons, and race in glory
B) Be taken back out to the dirt, finished off, and scrapped.

But, for all the mocking I do of the K-Car family, this perticular crap box is a tough little monkey. Whether it was gettin 4 feet of air, or shooting backwards out of ditches (almost got stuck in that one!), it held it's crap together.
