ill agree on that^
those that would lose their jobs does suck! as for the Caravan, its a Chrysler engine as it has the name on the engine but i cant remember the displacement off hand. Just replaced the altenator, tensioner, idler pulley, bearing (behind the timer cover), etc.... as for the oil leaks...i gave up trying so now i just dump StopLeak in the **** thing. I cant wait for it too die so we can get an SUV or something else for the "family" vehicle. |

If you think that flipping switches in combination to enter a programmed launch mode that holds the RPMs for you at 4k until you let off the brake is not apart of the "design intent", than your just crazy. Fact of the matter is, just driving the car outside of launch control it can produce an average sports car 0-60 of 4.5 seconds GTR owners say. And the car is quickly destroying itself to go to it's advertised speed. Flappy paddles, not for me.

So who is loosing a GM dealers in their area? Hell Obama is close large productive profit making dealer ships in my in laws area. They appealed to GM but no go. Is this even constitutional? What have we done by butting this socialist in office, I fear for worse to come.

Only 2 in houston are shutting down as the result of GM telling them too, according to my dad. One Cadi, and one Chevy dealership.
If the bankruptcy works out right, GM can force the gov't out of it's business with stock. Gov't went buying stock instead of other means to seemingly be able to have some control, but no liability. So, the ties are loose, IMO ****ty situation. Chrysler won't survive with Fiat though, even europe loaths fiats, their unreliable and poorly built there too. That's what the european blog commentors claim. Meh. Shoulda just done Chap 11 6 months ago.

A huge majority of the muscle car owners would never trade their car in just for mpg. Most have a daily driver and their muscle car is driven on weekends and stuff.

Well as crappy as Fiat (Fix It Again Tony) is, they are the polar opposite to Chrysler. And I think the only cars left from Old Chrysler are going to be the Ram, Town & Country, Challenger, and Charger (for the police). And GM is going to be much stronger once they get retructured. And the last thing we all want is for the government to become socialist. I think cars that get under 20 MPG are now dead.

One thing i dont like is how alot of the old cars got better or the same MPG than some newer cars. My 36 year old mercury got low to mid 20's, same goes for my gand fathers 65 mustang (we have the same original inline six). My fathers first car was a 70's datzun 1200cc something. It got high 40's. My first car was a 76 truimph spitfire. It wasnt drivable but was suposed to get around 45 to 50 MPG. All these cars had carbs. While my 91 4 banger fuel injected oldsmobile is getting maybe 18 MPG on a good day. My mothers chevy HHR is barly getting 25. The only newer car i see worth buying is the toyota pruis. A ladie i go to church with is getting 65 MPG (thats if you go 45 mph every where). But i still dont know if its worth the price. Just my 2 cents.

Cars back then weighed less, with much less luxury and safety items. All of which add weight and effect MPG. The cars you mention are all relatively low powered, small displacement small cars. But while cars maybe plastic bodies and small sides, their wieght is comparable to the biggest of cars back in the day.
That and not only has MPG requirements chagned, but reliability and emissions too. A carb is never as reliable as EFI, no questions about it. And there's no way with a carb that you can ever have consistant emissions. The modern Impala weighs more than the '64 Imapala, which was all metal construction and much larger. Good news everyone http://jalopnik.com/5292116/dodge-vi...ler-bankruptcy

They'll never take my Vic away! I don't care if gas is $10 a gallon, I'm being fined for driving a "gas-guzzler," and I make sub 20 mpg, I never give up my Vic, or any muscle car I own in the future. (I know the Vic isn't considered 'muscle,' but it will be when I'm done with it.) |
