Good to know. I have only dealt with Clodbuster motors, a CC01 motor and a venom 55t all of which had the wires attached. Kind of figured the higher end motors were wireless but wanted to confirm so I was not surprised.

Took me awhile to check back at this thread due to poor internet connection. Winner and mycrors4 are both right, usually the high end motors does not comes with motor wires attached to the motor. One of the high end motor I know that comes with motor wires is the Holmes Hobbies Cobalt Puller.
Small update: I sold all my 1.9 wheels, and order some new 1.55 wheels yesterday, hopefully they will show up within a week or two.

Update: So I sold the 2S Li-Po a few weeks ago, and upgraded to 3S, with deans plug conversion!
I also sold all my 1.9 wheels...to get those 1.55! RC4WD 1.55 OEM steel bead lock rims with 1.55 Mickey Thompson Baja Claw TTC tires. Each rims were packaged separately. Now that I switched to 3S Li-Po, I won't be able to mount it on the original location without raising the body mounts to the highest setting, and I don't want to mount the battery at the rear of the chassis, because I want to keep the truggy bed. So, it's time to relocate all the electronic. I picked up a project enclosure box from RS, to store the receiver and 3Racing light kit. Before I place the receiver in the box, I put it in a balloon and zip tie the end of the balloon to keep the water out of it. Now for the ESC, I'm still running the Holmes Hobbies TorqueMaster BR-XL, the one I got is waterproofed already. So I took the original receiver box that comes with the SCX10, and put the ESC in there, to keep the mud/sand off the heat sink and mount it all the way at the front of the chassis. As for the battery, I could not mount it up front, due to how big the battery case is. So I mount it right above the receiver box. Last but not least, new paint scheme!

Haha, thanks Chris! The new paint is done with Tamiya model paint, so they do chip, especially with the power this rig have now, the new paint is not gonna last long.

Update: Stripped the spur gear again...
Picked up a replacement part, went back to 87T. Also got 2 sets of heavy duty bevel gears, 43/13. It's been awhile since I open up the axles. Stock 38/13 vs. harden steel 43/13. Also relocate the electronics layout, original battery mount have been lowered by 1cm and split the electronics to the side, right above the rock sliders.

Update: Picked up my replacement transmission case yesterday, and swap over all the parts to the new case.
Replaced the banana plugs to dean plugs for the motor wires. Also installed some fog lights. And trimmed up the front fenders a bit.

Update: Left the rig as is overnight, took off the lid this morning and most of the chassis is still pretty clean, the wheel wells did their jobs. No mud got to the motor. Took it out and quickly wash off the dried mud. Then took my axles apart to install those new bevel gears that I just got in the mail today. From left to right: 36/14, 38/13, 43/13 All lubed up and ready to go. For more top speed, I also got a 81T spur gear. New spur installed on the trans, foam filter installed on the motor. Here's a short video of it in the woods yesterday.
A quick test run after the gears swap.

**** that thing has got some zip!
I just received an HH BR-XL and 13T Crawlmaster motor for my latest build. Its all set up and hopefully I can take it for a spin. If it works as good as it looks I am planning to get a 35T Torquemaster for my SCX10. I see you running the Cobalt Puller and and how zippy your truck is yet it seems to do slow very well. Thoughts and opinion on it? Advantage over a Torquemaster or Crawlmaster? Last edited by Lucky7; 01-10-2012 at 01:50 PM.. |

I begin to love this thread more and more with every time i read it haha
few questions though, do the wheel wells affect maneuvers at all? like climbing rocks and stuff? does the sponge filter affect motor performance? only i tried it once and it ruined my motor? thanks in advance NSX

I haven't try the CrawlMaster motor, so I don't have any thoughts on that. Quote:
So far, I haven't had any problem with the filter on the motor yet. Because the Cobalt Puller 7T motor have a big open area on the end bells, so the filter will keep the brushes dust off the chassis and keep the mud/water (if any) away from the brushes.

Update: Been running my SCX10 in puddles.
After the run, I took the motor apart and re-build it. It definitely need a clean up and some new brushes. Old brushes out. New brushes in. I also polished the comm. Break in the motor after everything put back together. It's ready to hit the trail again!

It's an awesome motor. But I'm still curious to see how well does a Brushless set up do with the SCX10.
Took the SCX10 to Central Park today, along with a friend and his heli.

mind me asking what container you used for the wheel wells?
was it already curved in that shape or was there some bending/shaping from you? thanks NSX

Update: Got the Castle Creation BEC installed. No more throttle cut off! Took it out for a quick run, and broke the front bumper mount. So I had to take the front bumper off.
