got my shell today but its abit long for the chassis and dont know how to extend it as you can see by the picture.
thats not my biggest problem though, i need to know how to cut out the engine mount of the shell without using a dremel. btw spitfire got your stuff sent out today. Last edited by deckerz; 06-08-2009 at 09:29 AM.. |

Use an exacto pen to cut the excess. You can find them in the hobby section of wal mart for a buck or two. My technique is to start by "drilling" holes into the are I am shaving off and then connecting the dots so to speak. It is the most efficient way to cut the excess.

you don't want to cut the engine bay until you get your chassis extended because you cut lines in the bay are going to change. unless your just cutting the whole **** thing out...... when i do it i try to leave as much of the bay intact as i can for realism and glue points. lookin' good so far.

That is for you to decide as you know your skill lever...you will more than likely not be able to get as detailed cuts so it will be choppy, but if that is something you are comfortable with then by all means.

If your going to cutting out the whole engine bay, who cares how choppy it is. Just be carful not to cut to far up. I would just use a dremel. I use that every time with no problem.

Ya they work good too. There just a lot more powerfull. I like the dremel for this because its smaller and a little slower, so less chance of a screw up.

i used stanley knife and got clean cuts but had to saw the middle section but its fine.
i dont know if i should rip out the stock servo and stuff and replace with a micro servo or not because after cutting out engine bay it still hits the gear casing. and i extended the chassis not it comes inline with the arches. i extended with some long screws, plastic tubing and used wheel nuts to give firm hold. |

It looks like you still have plenty of cutting room before you hit the body. I am assuming you aren't going for a detailed engine bay, so find where the hood rests, mark it off and cut everything below it. Can you get a side profile shot?
If you have problems mounting the rear truck clip try using velcroe on each side of the battery case.

ok iv cut it as far as i can without taking the hood mountings out and its still hitting so im guessing i will have to gutt it of the stock servo (covert to hs-55 or micro t), cut the part of the casing where the servo gears are, then it should sit right.

Might be the angle, but it looks as though you can push the body a little further back on the chassis. As far as the hood mounts, if you are not going to do a motor bay, just make sure you can glue the hood on when you are done.

i am just using the chrome blower part off the engine not the whole engine obviously and just use a thin piece of arylic or perspex (however you spell it) to mount the blower, on another note it doesen't matter anymore about it needing to be lower because i looked at a pic of the actual superbee and it has the same ride height so i have put truck wheels on but they dont look right atm because of treads and they really need to be the chrome hummer rims, i will just have to burn the tyres out until they are slick.
Also i am not using the blower that came with the kit but this is the blower on the front sus plate and i think the ride height is perfect, i am using the sort of blower on doms charger from fast and furious, anyway enough talk heres pics. |
