The articulation is easy and there is a write up out there for it. I can get the back wheels to rotate a full 90 degrees... to bad the body limits it! (cant post pictures at work, sorry)

Well what happens is I like to sit in my garage relax and do some modding everyday when I get home from work for a couple hours. I need atleast 3 projects going on because you can't work on one project everyday, because some days you have to wait for putty to dry or paint, or your waiting for a part. So with serveral going on I can do somthing everyday.

Well I tested everything and drove it around. The servo works very nice. It definatly helped out the lift kit steering problem. Now I'm stuck until I decide wether Im gonna use a HS-55 servo swap for the motor or a Universal gear box. I think the HS-55. I ordered 1 and it should be here in a day or 2. I spent the last 2 days working on this: http://www.xmodsource.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15638

for a lower center of gravity, 2.2 size crawlers put air soft BBs in the tires. they always go to the bottom, so you have lower center of gravity with very little work. also, for batteries, i would use 2 lithium ions mounted in a serese. for best crawling performance you should mount them as far forward and as low as possible. most larger crawlers have the batteries mounted over or on the front axle case. on an xcrawler, this would mean mounting it right up front where there would be the bumper on a normal truck body. this may not look nice with your body, but it would give you best performance. if you care about the looks, you could either make a little skid plate that goes over the batteries, or if you are willing to give up some performance, you can mount them on top of the front axle case under the hood of the jeep. hope this gave you some helpful info.

I'll stay tuned to this thread if you use the hs-55 for the motor. Was thinking using one for my crawler, but I need a new EP first.

Thanks for the info and comments guys.
-I have no video yet. I guess I can get a short vid of the steering up soon. -The batteries will be in the body near center. I will be doing something else for traction wieght up front (stay tuned) -BB's sounds interesting. -My HS-55 should be here tommorrow. -Im experimenting with a CF truck chassis, roll cage and suspension. (remember MACH-X Racing....... That thing was awsome) No quaranties on this though, Im just experimenting right now.

if you are using lithiums, the batteries in the middle probably won't hurt much, espescially if you fabricate a carbon fiber chassis that has the lithium ion aa battery slits like the stiletto does. this will mount them lower. for the BBs, i would only put maybe 20 copper BBs in only the front tires. this will bring more of the weight forward and keep the front end down on steep hill climbs. if you want, you can put about half the BBs as the front in back. that is always a good rule i have with BBs in tires. also, to make your tires conform more to the rocks, cut about 8 small slits spaced evenly around each tire's sidewall. this will allow more of the tire's surface to "hug" the rocks. don't make them to big or else the BBs will fall out. If they are just the right size, the BBs won't fall out, the tire will have more traction, and you won't be able to see the slits unless you are looking very carefully at the tires from 1 inch away.

*** UPDATE ***
Awww Man, Wait till you see this CF chassis after its cut out. (It's 3D and Awsome) Obviously this is the mockup to get measurements and everything. The finished chassis will be a bit more intricate and will have struts and stuff for solid support. Anyway checkout what's gonna happen. This chassis will be called the "TRI-X CrawlKing" I am open to suggestions, and expect a cut CF chassis for your viewing pleasure somtime Friday evening.

wow. nice chassis idea. that thing is beautiful. if only i have enough money to buy so many sheets of carbon fiber for all of my projects... the last time i made a carbon fiber chassis, it was for my 1/16th IRC vulcan and i screwed it up bad. now im scared to try again because this stuff is just too expensive.
