yep. I am always open for ideas.

Update:

I have been away from this project for a while now. Just got back working on it yesterday...

1. I made my 3rd gearbox(1st was a prototype with 1mm styerene, 2nd was going to be my final with 1.5mm styrene) this is 1mm styrene on the sides and 1.5 for the 4wd driveshaft. Got the gear mesh perfect.I have made 3sets and a couple extra sides to get the perfect mesh. It is drying right now before i add reinforcements.

2.I found my 4runner model(using it) and the Hilux i will use for the wider fenders and such. As for interior, probably not. This will be more function than style.

3.Figured out how to use the ball links. I got some threaded rod and some 4-40 to connect it to the chassis.

thanks.

I have an awesome idea for a 1/28 crawler. Only xmod part on it would be the body and possibly wheels. But this looks great. I had an idea similar to this to, but hobby grade consumed my life, and now I'm broke lol

Hmm. Sounds interesting. Thanks. Same here, i am trying not to run the hobby grades as much, so i don't break anything.

Update:
I got my ball links setup. I cut down some threaded rod and connected them together.

I also started working on a chassis, to mount the ball links, motor, servo, and elecs, as for the batteries and i have 2 2AAA battery holders or i can buy an extra micro t stock battery and wire 2 together.

anyways here are some pics:

thanks all comments welcome.

Looks like your going to have fun finishing this one. But it looks good so far and definetly good work with the custom gear boxes. Can see this will be one worth watching.

I hope and think it will be.

Update:

No pics, not really anything major. I am sticking with the rod driveshaft, no telescoping or mini quake driveshafts(for now). I am looking at the bigger crawlers(axial and such). I am looking to do a 4 link in the rear. And redo the front steering, possibly the suspension to.

EDIT:
started to make a 4link setup. here is the basic idea of how it will connect to the gearbox. I am going to need some more ball links(some are too stiff to move freely)

I am still trying to learn how to use the camera function on out new video camera...

Awesome chassis man, one of the best crawler designs in a long time.

This is the kind of build that does it for ME. I love the thought and work going into it. Thinking outside the box. Great, I can't wait for more photos. Also Im glad to see someone actually has referenced one of my tutorials. (Servo mod) Awsome man, keep it up.

thank you. I just went to hobby lobby, Micheal's (craft store, i don't know how it is spelled) has them, most hobby stores that sell model kits will have them.

Thanks. I thought i would try to make another crawler, and top my old one. AS for the motor in this. I found out that my not-so-lhs has Tamiya products. they have the mini 4wd motors(including the PLASMA!!), not to mention a Universal gearbox.

Same here. Thanks man. Your welcome. I don't know if it will be staying though. I have been looking at xmodification's and modjunky's(scale 4x4) steering setups.

I am thinking of dumping that 4link idea(metal bar thing, lol) and making a version that lays flat across the gearbox. It should lower the cog and keep weight down. I am in need of some cash before i can really start getting this thing going. I need some more/better ball links, the extra ones i have now don't move so freely.

Update: I started work on the body today.

I am using the hilux's front bumper and grill. I had to do a little cutting on the body to get it to fit correctly.

Why did i do this? i like the hilux's bumper and grill style better, more aggressive and making this 4runner my own.The Hilux front bumper and grill are on the body, the stock 4 runner's is by itself.

I think i got the video camera's pictures to come out great.

Update:

I have been working no the hilux fenders that are now attached to the 4runner. The fronts fit perfectly, the rears are going to fun, lol. I got some new epoxy putty that i found at a hobby lobby, Milliput standard epoxy putty, 2 part.

I then needed to get the front bumper to match the fenders, so i cut off some of the 4 runners fender and glued them to the front bumper and started to get them to match the hilux fenders.

Some of the pics didn't turn out too great, bad lighting to tell if they were focused.

thanks.

The time you have all been waiting for...

Update!

Gearbox:

I made a different piece for the top to lower the cog for the 4link setup.

Body:
Got the front fenders drying along with the rear gas cap being filled in.

No pics for those too for now...

New tires!!!!!!!

Lancer_Man told me about these. They are the same as XI's, i got them for cheap.

They are 50mm in diameter and 30mm in width. too wide soo...

Stay tuned.

Oooohhh! I have those tires also! I filled them with sand on the front to get a better center of gravity.

for the first one(3 cuts) the other 3 i just made 2 cuts, i just measured what i wanted from the middle to both sides and cut from there.

Too late i glues my rims in... i like these though.

yes but it is fun.

Update:

Tires:
All 4 have been glues 3 times to get rid off as much holes as possible, even thought it dried white...with the 3rd layer. I might paint the rims a different color when the body is done.

Gearbox:
I just made the top 4 link mount. Lower cog and less weight compared to the first one.

Body:

The grill i was using wasn't going to fit since the front bumper(hilux grill and bumper). So i had to move the bumper down a mm. IT is good now. Just have to redo putty work which i started. Drivers side is before sanding, passenger side is almost done with sanding, then i have to putty it again for the right shape. The marks on the bumper is where there are little gaps inbetween the bumper and grill i am going to fill with putty.

Thanks.
