WEll, it truly depends on your Terrain. Here is basically a general layout that you should follow when getting into Offroad R/C. This isn't meant to maek your decisions for you, but to act as a guide to help you for what you are looking for, if you have any more questions, just ask.
Terrain: Extreme terrain: Mud, Large Rocks, Tall Grass,4"+ Obstacles, Low Traction, big jumps For this I would recommend a 1/10-1/8 scale monster truck. 4x4 is a must. The E-Maxx or T-Maxx are two great R/c monster trucks with plenty of aftermarket, the savage also works. Price Range is around $250-$500 Rough Terrain: Tall Grass, rocks, 2"-4" obstructions, light mud, gravel, jumps. I would recomend a 1/10 scale truck, 4x4 is preferred but 2wd will be just fine. I would recomend something along the lines of a Traxxas Stampede, or an HPI Wheely King 4x4. A Traxxas Stampede is a long proven truck with tons of aftermarket, and the Wheely King has 4x4 lots of suspension travel and it is also fairly cheap, aftermarket for the wheely king is pretty good. Price Range is around $150-$250 Mild Terrain: Grass, Gravel, 1"-3" Obstructions, Pavement, light sand, very light mud, race track, dirt. For this terrain any vehicle around 1/18-1/10 should do. 2wd is perfectly fine for this terrain, but 4x4 is always welcome but definately 4x4 if you are going to run a 1/18. I would recommend something like the Traxxas Slash/Rustler or maybe a Duratrax DT. For 1/18 scale I would recommend maybe an RC18MT. The Traxxas Rustler and Slash have TONS of aftermarket for them, much like the stampede, the Duratrax DT is fairly new, but it is based off the Evader, which is a sturdy chassis and comes with a Stresstech Gaurantee so they will replace broken parts. The RC18MT was an early contender into the 1/18 scene and also has much aftermarket and handles fairly well for a 1/18. Price Range is $100-$200

what vehicle would you recommend for $100 - about $120 in the mild terrain i was looking at a micro-t which is about 80$ but i don't know how good it is for off-roading

I had a micro t but the tranny gears strip really easy imo. I ran mine on carpet indoors only and I had it for just a couple weeks when I learned one of the gears was completley stipped, and the battery life is like 10 min after 25 min of charging, I also didn't like the external charger thingy and that whole concept. Losi's new 4x4s look cool though, the tranmission is way simpler but unfortunatley the same battery I beleive

with ur price range, either a mini t or a rc18t, the rc18 is a bit over your price range, but well worth it imo, or if u can find the older shaft driven rc18mt, its really fun

Well, considering your price range your options are pretty limited. I would recomend an Evader EXT for around $120 http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...=LXSGU7**&P=ML But I think it would be a great investment to save up a few more dollars to get a Traxxas Rustler/Stampede http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...=LXNJH9**&P=ML or an RC18MT http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXKCC2&P=7 , an Evader will suffice and there is a stresstech gaurauntee on the parts, however if you wanted to upgrade to Brushless or alloy parts, there isn't too much aftermarket for it, most of the spare/optional parts are made by Duratrax themselves.

here are some links:
the mini-t is just a mere $100 these are all the Losi Mini's/Micros here are all the Associated Mini's here are some stuff within your price range and a tiny bit over it the Duratrax Evader is a decent car here is a very bad clone of an rc10t4 never owned it, never seen any reviews on it here is a Thunder Tiger Phoenix, also known as an RC10B3 clone the Losi Strike is a very fun car, not the most durable, not the best racer, but its OK overall hope this helps
