For Gearhead and Subaru Lovers

Well a while back, GearheadV8 asked SPR if he could make a WRC wing for his Subaru like the one SPR had made.

SPR, being busy at the time, declined services to Gearhead, and after settling down in school (and a lil help from a snow day) i began work on this wing as charity for Gearhead.

Duude that's so sweet; awesome bodywork; seriously. Sickest thing of all is the similarity to the "actual" one, just by eye balling it it seems that the fins of the wing are proportionally spaced in relation to the real one; I don't know man it's really awesome work.

This'll sound very OCD of me, but I ACTUALLY Measured the length of the wing, and marked off each location for the cut that i did with the dremel... Pretty much the same in reverse for the fins (as seen below).

ABSOFREAKINLUTELY badas$ dude, there's not much that can be said when you push a project like this; it speaks for itself.

I don't doubt it even a bit that you in fact did take measurements of it and scaled it down to proportion, it looks exactly the same; even the upper lip of the fins meeting the wing seem to be proportional as well; very cool.

What is most amazing is that not only you got some sick skills but also that you take serious attention to detail, proportion, and shape. Congrats on your work, it's very amazing.

If you don't mind me asking; I assume the white media you're using is styrene, but I can't make what the blue material you're using for the wing itself is; what material is that that you're using?

I do a bit of custom work myself but nothing close; not even near to what you do.

So I'd like to ask you; can you actually mold/build an xmod body if given the concept and sketches? It's not an already existing xmod body but one could be used as base start and fabricate from there on.

Reason why I'm asking is cause I've been wanting to try something out and attempt to recreate this " junkyard battle" hotrod I sketched out and maybe you could give me some pointers and kinda draw me into the right procedure.

I don't mean ti knit pick but it looks like the (second picture) closest fin is just slightly taller than the others.

These days, I think everyone forgets the concept of a "Project thread".
If you ask me I wouldn't hold that to him as the final product. In fact I GUARANTEE you that he will sand them down and make sure that they are even before he makes that lip on the end of the wing. I'm not saying your criticism isn't helpful; just keep in mind that this is Kaze's project thread and not a final product. I think we both put things up step by step so you guys can see the progress, and then fix the discrepancies later on before they are even mentioned.

That's the whole point of posting a project's thread, so everybody can see the progress and how it starts from a scrap of styrene sheet to actual foil on the body, lamination, whatever floats your boat, etc.

Thing with KAZE is that his work looks real clean even tho it's barely on the first stages; most of the projects when you look at the first set of pictures, you can't even tell what's going on until it's been refurbished and worked on a few times over.

Honestly; for the precision and similarity to the actual one; I wouldn't even mind if there's a fin a bit taller than other, at simple glance it looks pretty much identical.

As for the "molding" question, its easier to have an existing car on this scale to build onto, a good example of what you're asking be XMDrifter's Project Werks (both Versions)

Well I'm not gonna get at you like the others, I agree with you lol. Like I said I'm being rather OCD with this, I'm very upset that I can't get an exact color match but I have something fairly close. If it satisfies your OCD, when the putty goes on (next and 2nd to last step). The sanding step is going to even out all the fins, I just need to create the backing and clean up some open gaps.

I like the progress.. I'm impressed.

I was merely pointing it out in case he didnt quite notice it. Some things have gone unnoticed on other projects and with this being such a highly detailed piece of art, I just wanted to help.

Its not the same as doing it yourself.
