Converting a MR-01 to a MR-015 or MR-02?
I recently got my first Mini-z (MR-01) And I was thinking of converting it to a MR-015 or MR-02 and I'm wondering,
Which would be a better conversion? What would need to be done in terms of electronics and chassis? What would the change to electronics do? What would the change to the chassis do? XD That seems like alot of questions. |

I thought the MR-01 was more like the MR-015 than the MR-02.
Isn't the MR-01 chassis practically the same as the MR-015? From what I understand the MR-015 is the MR-01 with better electronics and the rear shock. |

Oh well. The MR-01 I got was an extra of my dad's that he gave to me.
Now I'm just confused why someone had said the MR-015 is the MR-01 with better electronics and the rear shock. And now, looking at the MR-015 and MR-02 side by side, I'm thinking that those chassis are more alike than the MR-01 is to the MR-015. Thanks anyway all. |

Converting an 01 to an 02/015 is a pretty big task... you share only a few parts.
Electronics board Servo motor and potentiometer Servo gears Wheels, tires, bearings You will need an MR02/015 servo saver, which is the biggest change of all. If you're not going to be racing though, I'd keep your 01 an 01. You won't break any servo gears unless you drive like a lunatic.

I think I'll probably just keep this MR-01 a MR-01 and see if I can't get a MR-015 or MR-02 for a reasonable price. (less than $100) Although I'll use this MR-01, I'm probably going to keep it stock and stick with messing around with the Xmods, they're cheaper. XD
Although I do like the responsiveness of the Mini-z, it doesn't get forward and backward mixed up and responds alot faster. Also the Mini-z has a wider turning range, my only complaint is that it's more "tail happy" than the Xmod, but that's probably because I'm comparing a AWD Xmod to a RWD Mini-z But overall, working on a mini-z, in addition to my Gen 1 and EVO, would probably cost too much, especially because everything Mini-z naturally costs more. XD |

well, get some derlin servo gears and you won't be breaking the stering even if you drive like a lunatic.
well, the mr01 is not as tail happy as a rwd xmod. that's for sure

Its more tail happy because its control is MUCH better than that of an xmod and also you're prolly running narrow rims
Hit me up for a servo saver, I have a spare I don't really need.

Yes, I'm using narrow rims, the rear wheels are the same as the front wheels. Also it seems to be a really hard rubber compound. Almost as hard as my plastic Xmod drift tires. I might work on a Mini-z later on, but It'll be after I've gotten more money, worked on my Xmods more, and have more money. Also does anyone know the details of the Mini-z motor? like its rpm. And does anyone know the stock weight difference of a MR-01 and a Gen 1? The Mini-z feels alot lighter. |

The Mini-Z stock motor is roughly 70 turns and somewhere around 27-28k rpm unloaded. It's actually surprisingly fast, I would put it in the Xmod Stage 2 range for power even though it has 70 turns vs. 49.
MR01 is around 180g (with batteries and body), and Xmods are 210-220g IIRC. The weight difference is quite large. The MR01 has no servo saver so if you smack the front wheels into a wall, the servo gears inside the white servo casing (or black, if you have a very early MR01) can break. You can soften your rear tires by rubbing WD40 or simple green into them. Or you could buy new tires for $4.

What do you mean turns?
