Default How-to: Wheelie Bar

Yep a Wheelie bar like in my avatar. Can be used on any car.

Difficulty: 4/10

Materials:

-2 paper clips but some extras may be needed(large/jumbo)
-pliers
-cutter
-solder
-soldering iron
-sponge(comes in handy when soldering the paper clips together)
-tech deck wheels(little finger skateboard)

Mounting materials(to car, varies depending on car, optional):

-aluminum or plastic
-hot glue and gun
-drill bit(size depends on size of screw, micro t/xmod for example)
-sand paper(i used 320)
-etc...

Wheelie Bar:

Grab 2 paper clips an cut off the biggest side/lengths on each.

And cut off the smallest sides/lengths too and set them aside along with the scraps.

Next, grap the long length paper clips, and bend it to the width or length(about same size, radius of length)of the tech deck wheel, 90* angle:

Next bend the paper clip again at a 90* angle like before:

Then you are going to want to bend it again, 90* but the wheel needs to be inside the bend:

(next to a little diagram of the bends, like "L or G")

Do it with the other paper clip too, if you haven't done so.

Now grab one small length of paper clip and tin or apply solder to one or both ends(both ends will need to be tinned later anyways).

And solder one end parellel and even to the long paper clip:

Then grab the other long paper clip and solder it to the other one:

then turn the Wheelie bar over and tin the other short paper clip.

Then attach it to the wheelie bar:

Now you can strength the joints if you feel they are pretty weak.

Mounting to the car:

I made mine to fit the Micro dt. So i believe that is a 1/32 drill bit?i don't remember. lol

I cut a piece of aluminum and drilled to holes in it to fit bottom of the chassis, i then filed and cut it so it would screw into place nicely. Next i sanded the aluminum so hot glue would stick I then glued the wheelie bar to the aluminum and let it cool and mounted it on the chassis and did some wheelies:::

All sizes, lengths and mounting process/materials can be changed to fit the vehicle or your needs.

Thanks. All comments welcome.

Nice tut fieldfairy2! I need a wheelie bar for the BL Micro DT...once I get a new tranny lol, Mine was shredded from the brushless power. I found the tutorial easy to follow although I never made it yet but still and the clear pics were good too.

Thanks. I originally made mine for the dt and then i fabbed a smaller and quick one for the tutorial. I am thinking of getting a 3racing or Thetoyz, aluminum gearbox both have a slipper clutch ball bearing and the toyz has different colors than the light blue.

Thanks. A video of it working? or making it? I might get a video of it working. But you can't tell if it is popping wheelies because it pops them and the way i mounted mine it gets like 2cm off the ground for more control. But it is because after i charge the battery it always does.

Really? I could use that. It comes with a stronger diff I hope, no way I'll go a month on a new stock one with the way I run it soo fast and how hard I beat it.

Nice tut. Looks cool. But is that strong enough as a wheelie bar.

It is strong. haven't broken it yet, on the dt or by sitting on it by accident. lol. You do want the joints to be well soldered. I did say you can reinforce the joints after getting it all put together.
