they said it couldn't be done (an xmodding first)
while i was talking to Kaze last night he said he thought that a 180 motor might be able to fit on a short chassis gen 1, it would just be a tight squeeze.
well, since i had a short chassis gen 1 and a spare 180 motor i decided i would try it out and see if it really could be done. turns out, he was right, it takes a lot of trimming and a lot of squeezing, but a 180 motor will actually fit in a short chassis gen 1. and i have pics to prove it ^you can tell its a short chassis by the screw placement ^the servo is pushed forward a little, but i took off the plastic part right here and it fits fine, and still turns without a problem with the body on by rolling it with my hands it doesn't feel like there is any binding in the chassis, but the electronics in this car are pretty much dead so it wont actually move under its own power. and since i dont have a pinion puller at the moment i had to improvise with a 12T pinion gear from an evo turned around (needed a little modification there too) gear mesh isnt perfect, but it works, that's what counts

cool, but surpa's arent short chassis's like this one so its not as hard to fit it in there
yes i plan on getting new electronics for it, and to get a higher speed gearing in it, im thinking a 15T pinion gear from XI and the 21T blue transfer gear should be a pretty good high speed gearing (15:21) its gonna require a little more custom work though

talkin with Kaze again last night he suggested a different kind of gear that would make the car pretty fast. as it stands right now, the gearing is 24:21. i had to do a little custom mount to get the motor in the right place, but it works, and i have a video of the rear end on the speed checker (hooked up to the only good gen 1 esc i have haha, a new one is on the way though)
^see a resemblance anywhere? i also got some pics of what i had to do to make more room for the 180 motor, but they're not the best, i hope you can tell what they are ^upper portion of esc angled and pushed forward ^esc cover trimmed to make room and here's the video http://s103.photobucket.com/albums/m...t=MOV06215.flv Let me know if my pics are too big, i have a wide screen so they dont break the forum tables on my screen

yeah, and right after you left i went to run it on the speed checker again and i realized....it hit 35kph in REVERSE!, i have the motor wired hooked up wrong hahahaha, im fixin it now, i'l get new speed #s up soon
EDIT: got the motor hooked up the right way this time haha new results if you were wondering, i hooked the motor up to the esc on the all alum chassis, thats how i can get a reading of 41 kph from a car with no electronics hahaha
