Critical Advice Needed
I was working on one of my Xmods just now swapping chasis and EP's over from my painted lancer chasis to a new Gen 2 Chasis. During the process I soldered over the EP which has the following:
18Gauge Wire Upgrade Spider V3.0 Power Switch bypass Upon the transfer it's necessary to test that the transfer went well, so I pop my batteries in there and the moment I do i hear a small snap or crack and then see smoke come out of the chasis... I know i burnt something, but i'm not sure what.... I need advice on what i burnt so that I can replace it seeing how there's a new EP there too... Can someone confirm what I burnt and why this happened? (please don't let it be the spider.... also the batts were removed immediately I'm quick with stuff like that). Thanks....

Stole... i mean borrowed... my moms camera.... what do you guys think? I'm going to tape the wire shut and put some batteries in and see if I can accelerate.
From the looks of things, this wire was the culprit. The steering FET seems to have been the victim (bottom left) The top of the board (and Spider) seem fine, i guess? anyway I can troubleshoot? *Put some batts in after wraping the stripped wire above, the car can Accelerate but smells like burnt plastic while the batt's in there.

No i know, I haven't decided on either transplanting onto a blue evo board and doing 20awg instead of 18awg, or just swaping a fet, cause i feel that swapping fets is hard, i was nervous enough with the spider install the first time around.

just a new board if your not comfortable doing a fet swap.
you can still use 18g, but 20g still seems reasonable in performance to me (hell, i've got 26g wires hooked to my 11.1v 1000mAh helicopter li-po, and i can't see the difference between that and my other 18g 11.1 1000mAh heli li-po) edit: i think steering fets are kinda hard to find if you don't have extra boards
