ammonium sulfate?

some guys came by in a car after i got home from school and threw a vial of something containing ammonium sulfate at me. it said it was some sort of irritant, so we(my dad, friend, and i) called the cops and did a little research ourselves. all we could find was that it goes into pesticides, but pesticides don't come in little vials... also, neither of the cops that came knew what it was either. so basically i'm asking what contains ammonium sulfate? and also everyone else that lives or goes around metro georgia, keep an eye out for a grey mitsubishi lancer (usure on exact year, but base model of the evo 8) being driven by a white guy with a white girl and two black guys as passengers (all look early 20's). so if you happen to see them please pm me the tag number so i can report it. and also please let me know if you know what the chemical was.

Did you check Wikipedia?

It says it can be used to break down protiens and is in herbicide which I think Mythbusters says can make pants explode.

Another website said it could explode.

A guess is those kids wanted to make a little explosion to scare you.

well, i am debating on bringing an airsoft gun with me, but i probably shouldn't because they probably have real guns or something in the car.

a easy way to stell if it is amoniam sulfite. is open it.(parental supervision) and woof it. which means have your face a small distance and use your hand to almost smack the air around it. so your basically pushing thee smell to your face. if it smells like rotten eggs its sulfate.

ammonium sulfate is:
a chemical compound, (NH4)2SO4, a colorless-to-gray, rhombohedral crystalline substance that occurs in nature as the mineral mascagnite. It is soluble in water and insoluble in alcohol or liquid ammonia. It is prepared commercially by passing ammonia, obtained from destructive distillation of coal, into sulfuric acid and is used as a fertilizer, in preparing other ammonium compounds, and for fireproofing.... its not dangerous... maybe a rash from prolonged exposure but you only got hit for a little bit once... no it is not flammable... they bought the wrong chemical if their intension was to harm you... the smell is the sulfer that is requiered to create this chemical.. another part of the smell is the ammonia also required to create this.... it is water soluble and is used as a fertilizer in food we EAT... as long as you shower after use or after exposure your all clear. The chemical compound ammonium nitrate, the nitrate of ammonia with the chemical formula NH4NO3 is a white powdery substance at room temperature and normal pressure. It is used in agriculture as a high-nitrogen fertilizer, and it has also been used as an oxidizing agent in explosives, including improvised explosive devices. so either way no matter which one of these it is your safe... unless you throw your self into a fire with ammonium nitrate on you... lol happy you asked?

ammonium sulfate is also used in food and in vaccines, i wouldn't worry about it much.

This sounds extremely random. Take a photo of the vial, I have a feeling there is more to the situation then the obvious. I doubt their intentions were to assault anyone, as doing so in the manner they did would be less then conducive to their cause.


EDIT: I am sure it's completly a coincidence but the chemical compound "Ammonium NITRATE" appears in the trailer for the new Sheala movie "Eagle Eye"...

i have a black airsoft M4 carbine you can use, it has full auto.. :redfin:

Ever heard the saying "Don't bring a knife to a gun fight"? I think it would be even more futile to carry an air soft pistol for protection against the unknown. Lord knows if someone pulled a fake gun out of their pocket and aimed it a someone I would draw a bead on them with my carry peice. That's how kids get shot by cops.

Instead of even entertaining the thought of protecting yourself with a child's toy, why don't you carry a camera instead. It will prove to be much more useful if the situation occurs a second time.

Easiest way to get them back would be to get the cars tag then just call the cops anonymously and report seeing the car being stolen as you where driving along.....

Don't carry an Airsoft gun to try and scare them or get them back. Most likely it will just get you in trouble. Hey, if it didn't hurt you, I wouldn't worry about it. If you see the car again just get the plate and report it. You could always get some of my smokebombs that disintegrate soda cans..... That wouldn't do much though.

that's what's so confusing.
1. they werent directly trying to kill me because they couldve run me over alot easier
2. they werent just trying to ditch the stuff because they had to cut into oncoming traffic to throw it at me
