Default Horrible Grip on my Swampers

So I joined in all the craze and bought a few Swampers off ebay. Their nice and big, but ****, no grip whatsoever on the floor or on my desk! My truck simply burns out before moving, and this won't help for some crawling a bit. Any tips?

Their M/T Swampers, not IROK.

Those tires have terrible grip. Most tires like such have bad grip. You might want to check around before you buy some tires like those. I think the M/T tires are probably best for going in sand. If you can, sell those tires and buy Aoshima Super Swampers. Plenty of grip. But are a tad smaller then the M/T tires.

I read that the IROKs actually have worse grip. I'll look up the Aoshima Swampers. I sort of jumped the gun as I got 8 tires for less than 15 (I think) shipped.

Iroks suck like no tomorrow. I believe it's like the Xmods drift kit tires.

Thats a good deal for those tires! I would've jumped on them too. If you dont have the cash for Aoshima swampers, sell your M/T tires. As the Aoshima swampers is about $15-$20.

Know where I can pick up a set of these swampers? I just looked on ebay and my only choice is to buy a model

Anyone think that cutting more threads in the tire will increase the grip?

If anyone wanted to know where I got the swampers, here you go:
IROKs: http://cgi.ebay.com/Super-Swamper-IR...QQcmdZViewItem
M/T: http://cgi.ebay.com/TrXus-MT-Super-S...QQcmdZViewItem

Not from what I know. Try around the forums and such. Besides, you get a kick-*** body that you can mount on an Xtruck chassis. Looks nice if done right.

Not sure about cutting the threads, I wouldn't try it either, unless you knew what you were doing.

Well, as an update, I took a knife to my swampers. I cut some small cross threading patterns using a knife, not deep at all (only like a mm). I get some more grip now, it doesn't 'burn out' as much as before and is less likely to slide around when the brake is applied.
It still won't cut it (bad pun, I know) in regards to crawling. It works in the snow, but if I go above 50% throttle, it digs itself into a ditch. Still fun though

cut a bit deeper and make the tire have deep treads (2mm) it's a thick tire, you don't need to worry much about cutting it.

Boiling the tires helps significantly. Ever have a mouthpiece? its like the same thing. Take a cup of boiling water, put two in at a time. Boom some grippy and soft tires.

I had thought about getting a set of the Iroks and cutting them the same way you did. It is pretty common in the off road world for someone to buy large super swampers and then cut every other lug off to give the tire more rock traction. Do you have any pictures of your work?

Boiling is a good idea but be careful how long you do it for. You wouldn’t want to deform the opening for the rim. It might also make it too soft and you might need to superglue the tire to the rim (unless you are suppose to do that already then it wouldn’t matter).

I don't have a decent enough camera to take any pictures, so sorry about that.

I let it boil for at least 5 minutes and took them out. It was much softer and easier to put rims into, but now that it's cooled down, its the same as before.

You could try soaking them in WD40, but be carefull if you do it too long the tires will turn to mush, lol...

Later,

Those are 1/25th scale and I already have enough problems with binding and such, lol.

I'm going to try to cut the tires a little deeper and hopefully I get some more grip. I've also been offered some aoshima's from a member on the forum.

lol great... do aoshimas fit on the slammed rims or are they so small they fit on the regular rims? if any one wants to offer me aoshimas that would be nice :-) ill give you $10.00 and shipping... if you do it over pay pal of coarse.. but i have to think about it... i think m/t tires + a AWD kit works fine for me... i gotta try it in the snow...
