Default How-To: Wiring a Hs-55 to an EVO

Well, since a couple people have asked about how to wire a hs-55 to an evo board, i thought i would do it.

difficulty: 6/10
reward:10/10

Materials

-hs-55 servo
-soldering iron(40watt)
-fine tip for the soldiering iron
-solder
-wire cutters
-wire strippers
-screw driver(xmod and micro size for the servo)
-chassis
-prior knowledge about your car/chassis(take it apart where things are located)

I am very limited on pictures here...

lets begin, by grabbing your chassis and taking out the crystal and the motor tabs.

next, unscrew the electronics board cover and take that off.

I am assuming the stock servo and gears are all ready taken out.

Grab the hs-55 and unscrew the 4 screws on the back and take off the back cover. There should 3 wires and a board.

cut out the board of the hs-55 with the wire cutters.

you should have 5 wires left in the hs-55: 3 pot(red, yellow, green) and 2 on the motor(red and black)

strip all 5 of those wires with the wire strippers. about 5 mm or so.

Looking back at you chassis:

you should have the pot and power wires unsoldered from the servo and pot but still be connected to the board.(or replaced the wires with longer ones)

the motor/power wires:

hs-55 board

red to white

black to black

the pot wires should be solder like so:

hs-55 board
yellow to orange

red to black

green to white

NOTE: in the pictures i have different colored wire(needed them longer), yellow(is white), red(is orange), black(is black)

a little video

test the servo to make sure it works. i did turn the controller to left handed user because the steering was backwards(maybe i mounted it upside down)

if it works, cover the connections with electrical tape/heat shrink, if not make sure you followed the steps.

This is a WIRING TUT, not installing, why? because every body's tastes/setups are different. If you want to do it like mine then look at the pictures:

i cut the esc cover to make if flatter for the servo. i then used double sided tape to secure it down, and made the servo horn to fit.

Thanks,
